Accountabilities:

This role is responsible for evaluating life insurance risks, making underwriting decisions, and contributing to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes and tools within a modern digital insurance platform.

  • Assess life insurance applications by analyzing medical history, financial background, occupational risk, and lifestyle factors
  • Determine appropriate underwriting decisions including acceptance, modification, or decline of risks in alignment with guidelines and mortality standards
  • Apply underwriting policies, rules engines, and decision frameworks to ensure consistent and accurate outcomes
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly in both written and verbal formats to internal teams and stakeholders
  • Gather and interpret necessary information to support timely and accurate risk assessments
  • Work independently on assigned cases with minimal supervision while managing workload efficiently
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes, tools, and decisioning systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product enhancements and operational improvements
  • Stay current with industry standards, underwriting practices, and regulatory considerations
  • Requirements:

    This position requires experienced life insurance underwriting professionals with strong technical knowledge of risk assessment and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

    • 5–7 years of experience in life and/or health insurance underwriting
    • Strong knowledge of medical, financial, and non-medical risk evaluation principles
    • Experience underwriting both term and permanent life insurance products, including adult and juvenile cases
    • Familiarity with underwriting rules engines and automated decisioning systems
    • Ability to interpret complex medical and financial information to make sound underwriting judgments
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain decisions clearly
    • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent decision-making ability
    • Experience working in environments that require adaptability and comfort with ambiguity
    • Professional underwriting certifications (LOMA, ALMI, FALU, FMLI, etc.) preferred or in progress
    • Collaborative mindset with openness to feedback and continuous improvement
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive base salary ranging from $77,000 to $136,000 depending on experience and location
