[What you will be working on]
Govtech Developer Productivity & Services Programme is at the heart of how the Singapore Government builds software. We run the tools and platforms that thousands of government developers rely on every day, from tool discovery via Government Developer Portals and CLIs, to AI-assisted and AI-native development and validations with AI Coding Assistants, agents skills, CI/CD orchestrations, to data-driven insights and analysis on developer productivity, to friction-less previews and deployments with Containers and Kubernetes-based platforms.
On top of just the tools our programme provide, our Central Product Marketplace enables agencies to Discover, Evaluate, Subscribe, Bill and Operate all Govtech Products from a single platform.
We are seeking a Deputy Director (Engineering Management) who knows what it takes to engineer and sustain multiple high-performing delivery and operational teams for the Developer Productivity Platform.
As a Deputy Director (Engineering Management), you will:
-
Aim: Set Direction
-
Collaborate with Product and Design partners to shape the squad’s technical and delivery goals
-
Balance new feature delivery with technical sustainability, maintainability, and risk mitigation
-
Bring strong technical judgment — helping engineers navigate design and architecture trade-offs in alignment with long-term goals
-
Use metrics (e.g., delivery velocity, incident trends, performance) to guide decisions and improve flow
-
Assemble: Build and Support the Team
-
Build a high-performing, lean team with the right mix of skills, experience, and growth potential
-
Coach and develop your engineers through 1:1s, feedback, and career growth planning
-
Build a high-trust, inclusive team culture where feedback is valued and learning is continuous
-
Drive performance management with fairness, transparency, and context
-
Achieve: Deliver Outcomes Sustainably
-
Ensure the team ships high-quality software predictably, and improves over time
-
Support technical decision-making and architecture reviews, with support from Staff+ ICs
-
Monitor delivery health, reliability, and tech debt — and address root causes, not just symptoms
-
Improve Developer Experience (DevX) and reduce friction through better tools, processes, or team rituals
[What we are looking for]
You may be a great fit if:
-
You are a technically credible leader — able to support architecture discussions, unblock delivery, and earn the trust of your team
-
You stay close to the technical details — whether through architecture reviews, design docs, code reviews, or hands-on support when needed
-
You care deeply about your team's growth, wellbeing, and performance — and know how to coach engineers toward excellence
-
You bring clarity — helping teams prioritise, plan, and focus in a complex environment
-
You believe in developer experience and delivery flow as key levers for system health and impact
-
You understand how software systems and engineering practices scale — and can guide improvements across architecture, testing, observability, or infrastructure
-
You believe in shared success — and collaborate openly across functions, domains, and agencies
-
You take ownership of outcomes — and hold the team to a high standard of quality, security, and delivery.
