This role is centered on leading and developing a team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining a mission-driven career discovery platform that connects millions of learners and early-career professionals with opportunities. You will focus on people leadership first, ensuring engineers grow, receive continuous feedback, and operate in a high-trust, high-ownership environment. Working closely with product, design, and technical stakeholders, you will help shape delivery priorities while ensuring the team ships reliable, scalable software. The position blends technical understanding with strong leadership, requiring someone who can remove blockers, guide architectural discussions, and foster engineering excellence. You will also play a key role in hiring and retaining top talent while cultivating a healthy and collaborative engineering culture. This is a high-impact leadership role where success is measured by both team growth and product delivery quality.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead a software engineering team through coaching, execution, and technical collaboration while ensuring delivery of high-quality product outcomes:

  • Coach, mentor, and support engineers through continuous feedback, clear growth planning, and performance management
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering leadership to define priorities, align roadmaps, and deliver impactful solutions
  • Recruit, hire, and retain strong engineering talent while fostering a team culture that attracts high performers
  • Remove technical and organizational blockers to keep the team productive and aligned on delivery goals
  • Lead tier-3 support for your domain, including incident triage, resolution coordination, and root cause analysis
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions across teams, contributing to technical direction and system design decisions
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, tooling, and product innovation, including the thoughtful use of AI tools
  • Supervise a team of approximately 5–10 engineers and contractors, overseeing hiring, performance, training, and team development
  • Requirements

    This role requires strong engineering leadership experience combined with technical depth and the ability to guide teams delivering production systems:

    • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams in building and delivering production software systems
    • Proven ability to develop engineers, provide clear feedback, and build strong, healthy engineering cultures
    • Experience attracting, hiring, and retaining technical talent in competitive environments
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and present clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Solid understanding of application architecture, integration design, deployment, and testing practices
    • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle in fast-paced environments
    • Ability to manage ambiguity, resolve prioritization challenges, and drive execution effectively
    • Familiarity with cloud and modern engineering stacks such as AWS, Java/Spring Boot, React/TypeScript, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools is a plus
    • Experience in ed-tech, marketplaces, or startup environments is considered an advantage
    • Must be able to pass a background check
