Payments Relationship Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Payments Relationship Manager based in Portugal.

This role sits at the intersection of payments strategy, partnerships, and product growth within a fast-scaling global digital marketplace. You will be responsible for managing and expanding relationships with payment service providers while ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of payment systems. The position plays a key role in shaping payment strategies that directly impact user experience, transaction success rates, and overall business growth. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product, finance, legal, and customer support to ensure seamless integration of payment solutions. The environment is fast-paced and data-driven, requiring strong negotiation skills and analytical thinking. Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute payment strategies aligned with overall business objectives to support platform growth and transaction efficiency.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with existing payment service providers while identifying, evaluating, and onboarding new partners.
  • Lead negotiations with payment partners regarding fees, contract terms, and service levels to ensure optimal business conditions.
  • Monitor payment performance metrics such as transaction success rates, failures, and processing efficiency, ensuring rapid issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, legal, finance, marketing, and customer support to ensure seamless payment integration.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses and market research to support strategic decision-making and improve payment ecosystem performance.
  • Requirements:

    • Proven experience in payments, financial services, business development, or related fields in a global or high-growth environment.
    • Strong track record of managing relationships with payment service providers, banks, or financial institutions.
    • Experience in negotiation of commercial terms, contracts, and service agreements.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payment concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate effectively in fast-changing environments.
    • Experience in project management and cross-functional collaboration.
    • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
    • Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, or gaming industries is a strong plus.
