Job Summary
Job Statement
We are seeking an experienced corporate / commercial lawyer with significant demonstrated experience PAE as we expand our small, friendly legal team to keep pace with the rapid growth of our business.
Reporting to our General Counsel, you will also work directly with other functions including Procurement, Land & External Relations, Health & Safety, Corporate Development and People & Culture. Together with the General Counsel, you will also provide support to the Legal Counsel as required.
Genesis is currently in an exciting phase of growth and you can expect to undertake a wide variety of front-end work. We are looking for someone with a "can do" attitude who is able to strike the right balance between legal risk and commercial imperatives.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a variety of day-to-day legal matters (with the assistance of external counsel as appropriate).
- Negotiation and drafting of a broad range of commercial contracts, including supply of goods and services, access agreements, tenement sale agreements, confidentiality agreements, framework agreements and MOUs.
- Supporting our Procurement function across the contract lifecycle.
- Providing 'fit for purpose' legal advice that appropriately balances risk against commercial objectives.
- Assisting with the management of external law firms.
- Knowledge sharing – including preparing model documents and delivering training on legal issues to other areas of the business.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Typically, 10+ years' PAE gained across top-tier / reputable mid-tier firms.
- Prior in-house experience, ideally within the mining industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with and influence a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Experience with a broad range of commercial contracts and first class drafting skills.
- A willingness to roll their sleeves up, take initiative and approach each task with enthusiasm.
- A sense of humour and the ability to slot seamlessly into our small, collaborative and down to earth legal team.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded: (a) work health and safety; (b) employment; (c) native title and Aboriginal heritage; (d) environment; and (e) dispute resolution.

We are looking for someone to commence ASAP on a full-time basis. While the role is primarily based at our new office in the Perth CBD, some flexibility can be accommodated in terms of working hours and remote working.
