This Legal Counsel role is a high-impact opportunity for a commercially minded attorney to support the development and execution of large-scale environmental and sustainability programs. The position focuses on structuring, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements that enable operational delivery across multiple initiatives. You will play a central role in managing contract lifecycles in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where precision and efficiency are critical. Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, you will help shape contracting strategy and risk allocation frameworks. The role also involves continuous improvement of contract processes, templates, and systems to support scalability. This is a mission-driven environment centered on sustainability and the transition toward a circular economy.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead end-to-end contract lifecycle management, including drafting, negotiation, execution, amendment, termination, and ongoing contract governance across diverse commercial agreements.
  • Support a high-volume contracting environment by improving efficiency, developing templates, fallback positions, and negotiation playbooks to streamline legal operations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and legal risks such as indemnity, liability, data rights, termination, and regulatory obligations while supporting negotiation strategy.
  • Oversee and enhance the contract lifecycle management system, including workflows, metadata structure, reporting, and process optimization.
  • Track contract performance metrics such as cycle time, volume, and risk trends to inform decision-making and operational improvements.
  • Provide legal guidance to business stakeholders on contract structure, compliance, risk allocation, and negotiation strategy.
  • Ensure contract governance, compliance, recordkeeping, and audit readiness across all agreements.
  • Requirements:

    • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
    • 5+ years of experience focused on commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and management in law firm and/or in-house environments.
    • Strong experience handling complex commercial agreements and balancing legal risk with business objectives.
    • Proven ability to manage high-volume contract workflows in fast-paced environments.
    • Hands-on experience with contract lifecycle management tools, with Ironclad or similar platforms strongly preferred.
    • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and issue-spotting ability.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate legal concepts into clear business guidance.
    • Highly organized, proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working in lean, mission-driven environments.
