The role serves as the primary link between customers, agents, sales teams, and the central marketing function, ensuring local market insights directly shape regional marketing strategies, product positioning, customer experience, and go-to-market execution.

The Senior Marketing Lead – Lower Tanzania is accountable for increasing customer acquisition, agent engagement and retention, brand growth, product adoption, and working with the commercial team to strengthen revenue performance across Sun King's Lower Tanzania region. The role serves as the primary link between customers, agents, sales teams, and the central marketing function, ensuring local market insights directly shape regional marketing strategies, product positioning, customer experience, and go-to-market execution.
The ideal candidate is not a desk-based marketer. At least 60% of working time is spent in the field interacting directly with customers, agents, sales teams, and community stakeholders. The focus is to continuously uncover actionable insights that shape localized, customer-centred marketing plans, improve business performance, and strengthen Sun King's position across the region by ensuring every marketing initiative is informed by real market insight and delivers measurable commercial value.
The Senior Marketing Lead – Lower Tanzania will be expected to transform field insights into localized marketing plans, marketing plans into commercial results, and marketing investments into measurable returns that accelerate Sun King's growth across the region.
In addition to strengthening brand growth, the Senior Marketing Lead will be accountable for ensuring that all marketing investments deliver measurable business outcomes. The role establishes a culture of commercial accountability by tracking, evaluating, and optimizing the return on marketing investments across all channels and initiatives. Success will be measured not only through awareness and engagement metrics, but also through measurable impact on customer acquisition, sales growth, market penetration, customer retention, and profitability.
The successful candidate will also work closely with the Senior Marketing Lead– Upper Tanzania to exchange best practices, adapt relevant marketing strategies, and work closely when rolling out national customer and agent campaigns and programmes.
Customer, Agent & Market Insights
- Spend a minimum of 60% of working time in the field engaging directly with customers, agents, retailers, distributors, shop teams, and community stakeholders.
- Conduct regular customer immersion visits across rural, peri-urban, and urban markets to gain insight into customer needs, motivations, barriers, and product usage behaviours.
- Gather and review customer, agent, and channel partner feedback to identify opportunities for growth, retention, and customer experience improvement.
- Establish a structured Voice of Customer and Voice of Agent programme that delivers actionable recommendations to business stakeholders.
- Conduct ongoing market monitoring to identify emerging trends, market developments, and opportunities.
- Develop customer personas, market segmentation frameworks, and regional opportunity assessments to inform marketing planning and product strategies.
- Deliver monthly insight reports highlighting key learnings, recommended actions, and commercial implications.
Regional Marketing Strategy & Planning
- Translate customer and agent insights into localized marketing strategies tailored to the unique needs of Lower Tanzania markets.
- Develop annual, quarterly, and monthly regional marketing plans aligned with commercial priorities and growth targets.
- Work closely with the Senior Marketing Lead– Upper Tanzania to ensure national marketing campaigns are effectively adapted and localized to maximize relevance and impact.
- Partner with Sales, Product, Operations, Customer Experience, and Regional Management teams to identify growth opportunities and address market-specific opportunities.
- Coordinate the planning and execution of regional demand generation initiatives that increase customer acquisition, product adoption, and revenue growth.
Brand Building & Demand Generation
- Increase brand awareness, consideration, preference, and customer confidence across Lower Tanzania.
- Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns utilizing a mix of channels including radio, community activations, roadshows, engagement programmes, retail activations, digital platforms, referrals, and grassroots engagement.
- Ensure Sun King's brand positioning remains relevant, differentiated, and customer-centred within the local context.
- Coordinate local storytelling and customer success initiatives that strengthen brand credibility and community engagement.
- Monitor campaign effectiveness and continuously optimize performance using field insights and market feedback.
Trade Marketing & Retail Excellence
- Develop and execute retail visibility and trade marketing strategies that enhance customer experience and increase conversion.
- Contribute to the branding, merchandising, activation, and operational readiness of Sun King shops and retail touchpoints.
- Ensure consistent execution of retail standards, point-of-sale materials, and product displays across the region.
- Conduct regular retail audits and implement corrective actions to improve visibility, compliance, and retail excellence.
- Partner with retailers and sales teams to strengthen in-store engagement and demand generation.
Product Marketing & Commercial Growth
- Contribute to the launch and growth of Sun King's product portfolio, including Solar Home Systems, Inverters, Lanterns, Smartphones, and future product categories.
- Coordinate market readiness assessments and develop localized go-to-market plans for new product introductions.
- Create compelling product positioning and value propositions based on customer needs and market dynamics.
- Increase product adoption, cross-sell, and upsell initiatives that strengthen customer lifetime value and revenue growth.
- Partner with Product and Sales teams to identify opportunities for product improvements based on customer and agent feedback.
Performance Marketing & ROI Management
- Own regional marketing performance measurement and reporting.
- Develop frameworks that clearly demonstrate the commercial impact of marketing activities and investments.
- Track and optimize key performance indicators including customer acquisition cost, opportunity generation, conversion rates, attributed sales, customer retention, customer lifetime value, and marketing return on investment.
- Ensure marketing budgets are allocated effectively and continuously optimized based on performance and business impact.
- Build a culture of experimentation and continuous learning to improve campaign effectiveness and marketing efficiency.
- Present monthly performance reviews and ROI evaluations to regional and country management teams.
Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the primary marketing representative for Lower Tanzania and build strong partnerships across Sales, Operations, Customer Experience, Product, Finance, and Regional Management teams.
- Act as a key business advisor by providing market intelligence, customer insights, and strategic recommendations.
- Ensure alignment between regional execution and country-wide marketing priorities.
- Manage relationships with external agencies, research partners, media vendors, and activation partners.
Team Management & Capability Development
- Guide, coach, and develop regional marketing team members and agency partners.
- Foster a culture of accountability, customer focus, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Build field marketing capability and best practices across the region.
- Ensure all team members recognize their contribution to commercial performance goals.
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing.
- MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred.
- 8–12 years of progressive marketing experience, including significant experience in field marketing, trade marketing, consumer marketing, or commercial marketing roles.
- Experience within FMCG, Telecommunications, Consumer Electronics, Renewable Energy, PAYGo, or rural distribution businesses is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of developing localized marketing strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian consumer behaviour and regional market dynamics (specifically Dar es Salaam, Lindi, Mtwara, Ruvuma, Iringa, Mbeya, Rukwa, and Kigoma).
- Demonstrated ability to review customer insights and convert them into impactful commercial initiatives.
- Experience managing agencies, cross-functional stakeholders, and regional teams.
