In this role, as a Controls Engineer, you will design and develop control solutions for rotating equipment, power management systems, energy management systems, and electrical power applications using Baker Hughes technologies, PRISMIC products, and various OEM PLCs and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and project managers to execute customer and system requirements from design through commissioning.

As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design of rotating equipment, power management systems, energy management systems, and their associated auxiliary control systems
  • Reviewing electrical and control circuit designs and providing detailed markups and technical guidance to the drawing office team
  • Preparing and reviewing hardware design specifications, functional design specifications, control narratives, and I/O documentation
  • Developing detailed test specifications and procedures for hardware, software, simulation, FAT, and SAT activities
  • Programming PLCs and configuring control systems using various OEM software platforms to meet functional requirements
  • Creating configuration files for Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), protection relays, and communication interfaces using OEM tools
  • Performing hardware wiring, setup, simulation, and testing activities to validate system performance and functionality
  • Supporting product testing, integration activities, customer-site testing, commissioning, and collaborating with tendering, sales, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver customer solutions

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have proven experience in designing industrial control systems for rotating equipment, electrical power systems, power management systems, energy management systems, machinery, or process control applications
  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Controls, Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Have experience in PLC/DCS programming and configuring controllers, HMIs, SCADA systems, and IEDs; Codesys experience is desirable
  • Have the ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, control circuit diagrams, and single-line drawings
  • Have the capability to wire and set up hardware for simulation, testing, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities
  • Have competency in preparing functional design specifications, hardware design specifications, control narratives, and technical documentation
  • Have knowledge of industrial control systems, communication protocols, and networking technologies including Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, and IEC 61850; digital substation experience is desirable
  • Have an understanding of generator excitation, synchronization, protection schemes, switchgear systems, and safe working practices
  • Have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within global cross-functional teams
