This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Program Lead based in Australia.
This is a hybrid technical and operational leadership role focused on bridging strategic planning with hands-on software development in a highly advanced, research-driven engineering environment. You will oversee roadmap execution, coordinate complex interdependencies across multiple workstreams, and ensure that ambitious technical initiatives move efficiently from concept to implementation. The work involves supporting a system built on modular probabilistic models that enable rigorous, uncertainty-aware analysis across domains such as finance and scientific research. You will collaborate closely with engineers and product stakeholders in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team, ensuring clarity, alignment, and high-quality execution. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong software engineering intuition with program leadership experience and a deep appreciation for structured, scalable systems. You will also contribute directly to engineering work when needed, staying close to the technical details while shaping delivery at a strategic level.
Accountabilities
You will own the coordination and execution of the engineering roadmap, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities, technical constraints, and team capacity. You will act as the connective layer between leadership and engineering execution, enabling smooth delivery across complex, interdependent workstreams.
- Own and manage the engineering roadmap from a process and execution perspective, ensuring clarity of priorities and dependencies
- Lead quarterly and ongoing planning cycles, supporting goal definition, risk identification, and structured execution planning
- Coordinate cross-functional feature development from ideation through design, implementation, and delivery
- Ensure strong documentation practices and maintain internal tooling and process frameworks used across engineering teams
- Facilitate clear and effective communication across teams, ensuring timely access to information and alignment on priorities
- Identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks and interdependencies across multiple technical initiatives
- Stay hands-on by contributing directly to high-priority engineering tasks and automation efforts
- Continuously improve engineering processes to support speed, clarity, and high-quality execution
Requirements
You bring a strong blend of software engineering experience and program or technical leadership capability, with a proven ability to operate in complex, fast-moving technical environments. You are highly structured in your thinking, comfortable working across ambiguity, and effective at driving alignment across technical teams.
- Background in software engineering within collaborative, production-level environments working on large codebases
- Experience with modern engineering practices including CI/CD, testing frameworks, and code reviews
- Familiarity with functional or typed programming languages such as Rust, OCaml, Clojure, C++, or Haskell, with willingness to work with Julia
- Experience in technical program management, technical product management, or similar coordination-heavy engineering roles
- Proven ability to manage roadmaps, workflows, and cross-team dependencies in complex systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear execution plans
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, or support engineering teams
- Strong organizational instincts with a structured, systems-oriented approach to problem solving
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, research- or innovation-driven environments
Benefits
- Fully remote working environment with distributed, collaborative teams
- Opportunity to work on advanced probabilistic modeling systems with real-world impact in finance and science
- High level of ownership across roadmap, execution, and engineering processes
- Direct collaboration with highly technical engineers and researchers
- Strong emphasis on autonomy, learning, and continuous improvement
- Exposure to cutting-edge computational and modeling approaches
- Flexible, fast-paced environment focused on high-quality delivery and impact
