Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for an Experienced Scientist in the Emerging Technologies team, located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
The Emerging Technologies team within Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) helps bring new technologies from idea to application in pharmaceutical manufacturing. In this role, you will contribute to laboratory studies, data analysis, and technical evaluation activities that support process analytical technologies, integrated quality approaches, and real-time release strategies in the biotherapeutic drug product platform. Our work supports next-generation manufacturing by strengthening process control, improving product quality, and helping move promising technologies toward GMP application.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support in developing, assessing, and introducing new technologies for pharmaceutical manufacturing, process analytics, and process monitoring.
- Plan, run, and interpret laboratory studies together with colleagues across Manufacturing Science and Technology, Research & Development, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and external partners.
- Design and analyze studies using Design of Experiments framework to understand process behavior, define key parameters, and support data-driven decisions.
- Apply data analysis and modeling methods to generate insight from experimental and process data and support process analytical technologies, integrated quality, and real-time release approaches.
- Work hands-on in laboratory environments to generate reliable data, assess technical feasibility, and support Proof of Principle and Proof of Concept activities in support of next-generation manufacturing.
- Communicate findings through clear technical recommendations, reports, and presentations, and help move promising concepts toward GMP application and practical implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Master’s degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience in laboratory-based scientific work in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, chemical, or related industry, ideally with exposure to GMP environments.
- Experience with experimental design, data analysis, spectroscopy, analytical techniques, process monitoring, process analytics, or manufacturing science.
- Ability to plan, run, and interpret experimental studies and translate results into clear recommendations.
- Experience working across teams and technical areas in a matrix environment.
- Fluency in English, with the ability to explain technical topics clearly to different audiences.
PREFERRED:
- Preferred qualifications include experience with programming tools such as MATLAB or Python for data analysis and visualization. Experience with analytical methods, experimental data interpretation, and laboratory documentation would be an advantage. Exposure to process analytical technologies, Design of Experiments, GMP application, or data-rich experimental environments would also be valuable.
