Senior AI Scientist
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior AI Scientist based in the United States.
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of applied AI research, production machine learning, and backend engineering, focused on building the next generation of intelligent, personalized health experiences. You will design, deploy, and scale AI systems that power real-world consumer-facing products used by millions of users. The work blends LLMs, agentic systems, and production-grade ML infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on shipping reliable, evaluated, and continuously improving systems. You will operate in a highly autonomous, fast-moving environment where you are expected to own problems end to end—from ideation and experimentation through deployment and monitoring. This is not a pure research position; it is deeply product- and systems-oriented, with direct visibility into leadership and meaningful influence on product direction. The role is ideal for someone who thrives at turning cutting-edge AI into real, measurable user impact.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of production-grade AI and ML systems powering consumer-facing AI health experiences.
- Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and infrastructure supporting LLM and agentic AI pipelines at scale.
- Design evaluation frameworks to measure reliability, grounding, safety, and performance of LLM-based systems in production.
- Develop and deploy agentic AI systems, iterating on performance through experimentation, monitoring, and optimization.
- Own end-to-end project delivery from problem definition and research to deployment, observability, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to translate user needs and data insights into shipped features.
- Improve model performance through techniques such as fine-tuning, distillation, quantization, and prompt/system optimization.
- Identify new opportunities to apply AI to enhance personalization, health insights, and user engagement.
- 5+ years of experience building and shipping production AI/ML systems used by real external users.
- Strong backend engineering skills, including experience building APIs, pipelines, logging, monitoring, and production infrastructure.
- Proven experience deploying and evaluating LLM-based or agentic AI systems in real-world environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and experience with modern ML/AI frameworks.
- Track record of owning projects end to end in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with high autonomy.
- Strong systems thinking and ability to balance research exploration with production reliability.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
- Experience with cloud environments (e.g., AWS) and modern MLOps practices.
- Preferred: experience with fine-tuning, knowledge distillation, quantization, or agentic workflows.
- Preferred: background in consumer health, wellness, or personalization AI products.
- Competitive salary and equity package aligned with market benchmarks and experience level.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Mental health support and wellness resources.
- Generous paid time off, including holidays, sick leave, parental leave, and additional wellness days.
- Flexible remote work environment within the United States.
- Employee access to advanced wearable health technology and discounts for friends and family.
- Opportunity to work on widely used consumer AI products with real-world health impact.
- High ownership environment with direct exposure to senior leadership and product strategy.
