Global Trade Compliance - Export Controls Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Global Trade Compliance – Export Controls Lead based in the United States.

This is a senior-level compliance leadership role responsible for safeguarding global export activities across a highly technical, international business environment. You will act as a key advisor on U.S. export control regulations while enabling strategic business decisions across R&D, manufacturing, partnerships, and M&A. The role carries broad global scope, with a strong focus on ITAR and EAR compliance within complex operational settings. You will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders to embed compliant processes into day-to-day operations. This position combines regulatory expertise with strategic business partnership and risk advisory responsibilities. It is a fully remote role offering high visibility and cross-functional influence across global teams. The work directly supports compliant international trade for critical technologies and applications.

Accountabilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on U.S. export controls, providing guidance on compliance strategy and operational execution under EAR, ITAR, and OFAC regulations.
  • Act as a strategic business partner to senior leaders, supporting decisions related to global footprint, manufacturing, R&D, partnerships, and corporate transactions.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve export compliance processes, including screening, classification, licensing, and internal control frameworks.
  • Interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring alignment with U.S. and applicable international export laws.
  • Draft, prepare, and submit export documentation including TAA’s, MLA’s, and export license applications.
  • Collaborate with site and functional leaders to embed compliance controls into operational processes and ensure consistent execution globally.
  • Support risk identification, compliance investigations, and corrective actions related to export control matters.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in a compliance, legal, international trade, or related field preferred, with 8+ years of experience in export compliance roles.
    • Deep expertise in U.S. export control regulations, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and related regulatory frameworks.
    • Proven experience in export classification, licensing submissions, and management of controlled technical data and commodities.
    • Strong ability to advise senior leadership with confidence, clarity, and executive presence on complex regulatory matters.
    • Demonstrated capability to translate technical compliance requirements into practical business guidance and operational procedures.
    • Experience working across global, cross-functional environments with strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
    • Prior exposure to compliance investigations and regulatory problem-solving is considered a strong asset.
    • Must meet U.S. export authorization requirements (citizenship, permanent residency, protected status, or applicable government authorization).
