Solids Control Field Technician

This hands-on field role is central to supporting efficient and environmentally responsible drilling operations across remote job sites.
You will work directly on solids control and mud systems that help optimize drilling performance, reduce operational costs, and support closed-loop fluid management.
The position offers a highly practical, outdoor work environment where mechanical systems, heavy equipment, and fluid processing technologies are part of your daily routine.
You will receive structured on-the-job training while working alongside experienced field leaders and technical specialists.
The role is safety-critical, requiring strict adherence to operational procedures, teamwork, and compliance with field protocols.
You will travel extensively across Canada, working on rotational schedules in diverse and challenging environments.

Accountabilities:
- Operate and support solids control and drilling fluid equipment including shaker tanks, centrifuges, pumps, and drying systems on active drilling sites.
- Assist in rigging up and rigging down field equipment while ensuring safe handling, transportation, and operational readiness.
- Perform drilling fluid testing and analysis, including monitoring properties such as density, viscosity, and solids content.
- Support closed-loop mud systems and related services such as dewatering, barite recovery, fluid transfer, and cuttings management.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment under supervision.
- Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, excavators, or wheel loaders following certification and safety training.
- Complete required safety documentation including JSA/PJRA forms, inspection reports, and daily operational checklists.
- Participate in safety meetings, follow PPE requirements, and maintain strict adherence to site safety protocols at all times.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, including shared living and field environments during rotational assignments.
- 1+ year of experience in solids control, drilling support operations, or related oil & gas field services (required).
- Experience with dewatering processes, water-based mud systems, or fluid transfer operations (preferred).
- Familiarity with solids control equipment such as centrifuges, shaker tanks, pumps, and drying systems (preferred).
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, or wheel loaders (preferred).
- Basic understanding of drilling fluid properties and field testing procedures (preferred).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to learn basic electrical and equipment systems.
- Ability to work in remote field locations across Canada for extended rotational schedules (14 days on / 7 days off).
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts in all weather conditions, including night rotations.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure field environments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain required safety certifications (WHMIS, H2S, First Aid/CPR, LOTO).
