This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Accountant based in the United States.
This role sits at the center of a fast-paced finance organization, supporting critical accounting activities tied to clinical trials and research & development operations. The Senior Accountant will play a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP standards, and disciplined month-end close processes. You will work cross-functionally with Clinical Operations, FP&A, Procurement, and external vendors to ensure transparency and accuracy in R&D spend. The position combines technical accounting expertise with operational collaboration in a highly regulated and data-driven environment. It is ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in complex, evolving business settings. You will also contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency, scalability, and financial integrity.
Accountabilities
- Lead clinical trial and R&D accounting activities, including monthly accruals, prepaid expense tracking, cost allocations, and reconciliation processes in accordance with GAAP and ASC 730 requirements.
- Partner with Clinical Operations, Procurement, Legal, and external vendors to validate invoices, milestone billing, and contract terms, ensuring accurate financial treatment of research expenditures.
- Support month-end and quarterly close cycles by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses with clear supporting documentation.
- Maintain detailed financial schedules and reporting files related to clinical trials, R&D spend, and prepaid amortization.
- Assist with financial reporting requirements, audit support (internal and external), and SOX control execution for R&D accounting processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and enhanced reporting structures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA certification preferred.
- 2–3+ years of accounting or audit experience, ideally with a public accounting background (Big 4 experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting, including exposure to ASC 730 and R&D-related accounting concepts.
- Experience in biotech, life sciences, healthcare, or pharmaceutical environments is highly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle, as well as collaboration tools like Google Workspace.
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines, work independently, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present financial insights clearly.
