You will oversee catastrophe-focused commercial business, develop underwriting strategies, and guide a team of professionals in delivering consistent, high-quality risk assessments. Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement underwriting strategies that support profitable growth while maintaining strong risk-adjusted returns across commercial catastrophe-focused portfolios.
  • Establish, refine, and oversee underwriting guidelines, pricing frameworks, and risk selection standards to ensure consistency, compliance, and sound decision-making.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, underwriting metrics, loss trends, and exposure concentrations to identify opportunities for optimization and improved profitability.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of commercial underwriters, fostering technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and underwriting audits to evaluate accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established guidelines.
  • Partner with leadership, actuarial, product, and data teams to enhance underwriting processes and support innovation initiatives.
  • Leverage data analytics, predictive insights, and underwriting technologies to improve risk evaluation and operational efficiency.
  • Present portfolio analyses, performance findings, and strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Requirements

    • Minimum 7 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience, with strong expertise across commercial lines of business.
    • At least 5 years of experience evaluating and managing coastal catastrophe risks or catastrophe-exposed commercial portfolios.
    • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience managing, coaching, and developing underwriting teams.
    • Previous experience working within a Managing General Agent (MGA), insurance carrier, or similar underwriting organization.
    • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment methodologies, pricing strategies, and portfolio management practices.
    • Experience working with predictive analytics, underwriting automation platforms, data-driven decision-making tools, or related technologies.
    • Ability to thrive in cross-functional environments while collaborating with actuarial, product, data science, and operations teams.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives, improve underwriting performance, and scale high-performing teams.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
    • Producer license preferred but not required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and modern collaboration platforms such as Teams and Slack.
    • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated home office workspace.
