You will design and manage end-to-end integration workflows connecting payer organizations with advanced healthcare platforms, ensuring seamless data exchange and operational reliability. The position blends hands-on engineering with strategic relationship management, requiring both technical depth and strong stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with major payer partners to implement and optimize medication data feeds, prior authorization workflows, and interoperability solutions. Operating in a fast-paced healthcare technology environment, you will collaborate with product, engineering, and external partners to build scalable integration frameworks. This is a highly visible role where your work will influence system performance across millions of patients and providers.

Accountabilities

  • Lead end-to-end design, development, and execution of payer integration projects involving medication data feeds and healthcare interoperability workflows.
  • Serve as the primary technical and business contact for payer organizations, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring alignment on requirements and timelines.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize integrations with major payer systems, supporting continuous updates such as formulary changes and new plan configurations.
  • Manage multiple concurrent integration projects, coordinating dependencies, deliverables, and stakeholder communications across internal and external teams.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance prior authorization integrations, troubleshooting issues and improving approval success rates.
  • Act as a technical escalation point and mentor for integration engineers, providing guidance and supporting team capability development.
  • Partner with product management to define scalable integration architectures and establish standardized processes and SOPs.
  • Ensure integration solutions follow healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, X12, and comply with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Document integration processes, technical specifications, and operational workflows to support repeatability and quality assurance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, monitoring, and optimization of integration pipelines.
  • Support deployment processes including CI/CD, testing frameworks, and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS environments).
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • 5+ years of experience in healthcare integration engineering, with a strong focus on payer or healthcare data connectivity.
    • Strong knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, and X12 EDI.
    • Experience working with payer organizations, PBMs, or healthcare systems in technical integration roles.
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript/Node.js.
    • Strong experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
    • Solid understanding of healthcare regulations including HIPAA and HITECH compliance requirements.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience with EMR/EHR integration patterns and healthcare data exchange workflows is highly preferred.
    • Familiarity with prior authorization workflows, pharmacy benefit management (PBM) systems, and healthcare payer processes.
    • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers in technical environments is a plus.
    • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to travel occasionally (less than 5%) for team or industry events.
