Platform Engineer - AI Workflow Systems (Remote, China)
BJAK’s automation systems power end-to-end insurance journeys across quote generation, policy issuance, renewals, endorsements, claims, payments and insurer integrations. These systems depend on a strong platform layer that enables fast, reliable and scalable workflow execution across multiple services.
We're looking for a Platform Engineer based in China to design and build the core platform layer that powers BJAK’s AI-driven workflow systems, enabling engineering teams to ship faster while ensuring reliability, observability and consistency across all services.
This is a fully remote position where you'll collaborate closely with our Malaysia-based engineering, product and operations teams to build the foundational systems behind AI automation at scale.
The Mission
Build the core platform layer that powers AI workflow automation across BJAK’s insurance systems, enabling scalable, reliable and observable execution of complex business processes across multiple services and domains.
What You’ll Own
Design and build platform components that support AI-driven workflow automation systems.
Develop shared infrastructure and services for workflow orchestration, state management and execution tracking.
Build internal platform tools that improve engineering velocity and system consistency.
Improve APIs, service frameworks and backend standards used across multiple engineering teams.
Design systems for workflow visibility, tracing, monitoring and operational control.
Enhance reliability, scalability and performance of core platform services.
Work closely with product, engineering and operations teams to standardize workflow execution.
Improve deployment, configuration and runtime management of distributed systems.
Reduce duplication across services by building reusable platform capabilities.
Continuously improve platform architecture to support long-term system growth and complexity.
What We're Looking For
Experience in platform engineering, backend systems or distributed systems roles.
Strong understanding of APIs, system architecture and service-oriented design.
Experience building shared infrastructure, libraries or internal developer platforms.
Ability to design scalable systems that support multiple services and teams.
Strong understanding of workflow systems, orchestration or event-driven architectures.
Experience working with production systems in fast-moving environments.
Strong debugging and systems thinking skills across multi-service environments.
Hands-on engineering mindset with ownership from design through production.
Strong focus on reliability, maintainability and system consistency.
Practical, structured and collaborative approach to engineering.
Bonus Points
Experience building workflow engines, orchestration platforms or internal developer platforms (IDP).
Experience with event-driven architectures or distributed system design.
Experience with Node.js, Python, Java or similar backend technologies.
Experience with infrastructure tooling, service frameworks or platform APIs.
Familiarity with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting).
Experience with CI/CD systems and deployment automation.
Experience working in fintech, insurance or large-scale operational systems.
Experience building reusable backend frameworks or platform abstractions.
Contributions to platform engineering or system-wide architecture initiatives.
The Kind of Builder We Want
Thinks in platforms, systems and reusable architecture rather than single features.
Hands-on engineer who builds foundational systems used by other engineers.
Deep focus on scalability, consistency and long-term maintainability.
Strong systems thinking across services, workflows and dependencies.
Calm and structured when handling complex multi-service issues.
Proactive in reducing complexity and improving engineering efficiency.
Builds systems that enable teams to move faster with confidence.
This Role Is Not For
Engineers who only want to build isolated features without platform ownership.
People who avoid system-level responsibility or cross-service complexity.
Developers who ignore scalability or architectural consistency.
Candidates who require fully defined requirements before building.
Individuals who are not interested in enabling other engineering teams.
Success in This Role
You'll be successful if you can:
Build a strong platform layer powering AI workflow automation systems.
Improve engineering velocity through reusable and scalable platform tools.
Reduce duplication and inconsistency across backend services.
Increase system observability, reliability and operational clarity.
Enable teams to build and ship workflows faster and more safely.
