VMware Infrastructure Engineer

Jobgether · US

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VMware Infrastructure Engineer based in the United States.

This role sits at the core of a large-scale virtualization and hybrid cloud environment, responsible for designing, operating, and optimizing enterprise VMware platforms that support critical business workloads. You will work across compute, storage, and network layers, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across complex infrastructure ecosystems. The position involves hands-on engineering with VMware technologies such as vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and Tanzu, alongside deep automation using modern infrastructure-as-code tools. You will play a key role in lifecycle management, disaster recovery planning, and capacity optimization in environments that blend on-premises data centers with public cloud integrations. This is a highly technical, operations-driven role where reliability, scalability, and automation are central to success. The environment is fast-evolving, requiring both strong troubleshooting expertise and adaptability to evolving virtualization and cloud-native paradigms.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, deploy, and operate VMware-based infrastructure including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and NSX across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Build and manage Tanzu Kubernetes Grid environments supporting containerized and cloud-native workloads.
  • Implement and maintain automation solutions using PowerCLI, Terraform, Ansible, and vRealize/Aria tools for provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity strategies using replication technologies and Site Recovery Manager.
  • Manage performance, capacity planning, workload placement, and storage policies across enterprise-scale VMware environments.
  • Lead upgrades, patching cycles, and lifecycle management activities with minimal disruption to production systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues spanning compute, networking, storage, and virtualization layers.
  • Support hybrid cloud integrations and VMware Cloud solutions while ensuring observability and operational excellence.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
    • 5+ years of experience in VMware infrastructure engineering in enterprise environments.
    • Strong expertise in VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter administration and architecture.
    • Hands-on experience with vSAN storage design, NSX networking, and software-defined data center principles.
    • Proficiency in automation and scripting using PowerCLI and familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, or vRO.
    • Experience with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid or VMware-based container platforms.
    • Solid understanding of disaster recovery, replication strategies, and Site Recovery Manager.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure layers and ability to operate in complex environments.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering and operations teams.
    • Preferred: VMware certifications (VCP/VCAP) and exposure to VMware Cloud on AWS, AVS, or GCVE.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary range of $100,000 – $150,000 annually.
      • 100% remote work within the Continental United States.
      • Direct W2 employment with a stable, in-house engineering environment.
      • Opportunity to work on enterprise-scale VMware and hybrid cloud architectures.
      • Exposure to modern infrastructure automation, Kubernetes, and cloud integration technologies.
      • Strong focus on technical growth, lifecycle ownership, and advanced platform engineering challenges.
      • Inclusive and equal opportunity work environment.
