This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership, legal operations, and enterprise platform modernization, driving the evolution of mission-critical legal technology systems. You will lead the technical vision and execution for a portfolio of legal platforms that support matter management, contract lifecycle management, eDiscovery, and legal hold workflows. The position blends hands-on architectural leadership with people management, requiring you to guide engineering standards while shaping multi-year technology strategy. You will partner closely with legal and compliance stakeholders to ensure systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with regulatory requirements. A key focus of the role is enabling automation and AI-driven capabilities across legal workflows, improving efficiency and decision-making through modern data and machine learning approaches. This is a high-impact leadership role where your decisions directly influence risk reduction, operational efficiency, and digital transformation across the enterprise.

Accountabilities:

  • Define and drive the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for legal technology platforms aligned with business and compliance objectives
  • Provide hands-on engineering leadership, including architecture reviews, technical guidance, and enforcement of engineering best practices
  • Own architecture across legal systems including CLM, matter management, legal hold, and eDiscovery platforms, ensuring scalability and reliability
  • Lead integration strategies, API design, data architecture, and cloud-native implementation across legal technology ecosystems
  • Oversee adoption of AI/ML and automation solutions, including their integration into legal workflows such as claims, contracts, and risk assessment
  • Ensure strong system performance, observability, security, and “secure-by-design” principles across all legal applications
  • Act as product and technical owner for legal technology capabilities, driving user experience, adoption, and measurable business value
  • Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering collaboration, autonomy, and innovation
  • Partner with legal, compliance, and vendor stakeholders to align technology delivery with operational and regulatory needs
  • Requirements:

    • 9+ years of experience in systems engineering, including at least several years in a leadership or management capacity
    • 5+ years of experience working with legal technology platforms such as CLM, matter management, or claims systems
    • Strong background in system integration, SaaS platforms, cloud architecture, security, and compliance
    • Proven experience leading engineering teams and driving large-scale technical delivery in complex environments
    • Familiarity with AI/ML, automation, analytics, or digital transformation initiatives is strongly preferred
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical decisions into business impact for non-technical stakeholders
    • Experience working in regulated or complex industries such as legal, finance, insurance, or government is a plus
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
    • Certifications such as CEDS, PMP, or ITIL are a plus
