This role sits at the intersection of healthcare modernization, software engineering leadership, and large-scale public sector transformation. You will lead a multidisciplinary team building and evolving a mission-critical case management platform used to support program integrity efforts across Medicare and Medicaid. The environment is highly collaborative and impact-driven, with a strong emphasis on improving public health outcomes through better technology. You will be responsible for guiding engineering execution, strengthening team performance, and ensuring delivery of scalable, secure, and user-centered systems. The role blends hands-on technical understanding with people leadership, requiring the ability to shape architecture, processes, and engineering culture. You will also contribute to modernizing legacy systems into cloud-based, interoperable solutions that support data-driven decision-making. Accountabilities:
- Lead and manage a team of software and QA engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development through regular one-on-ones and structured team development practices.
- Drive engineering processes, standards, and delivery practices to ensure high-quality, scalable, and secure software development.
- Participate in hiring, workforce planning, and team scaling initiatives to support evolving project needs.
- Oversee the design and development of backend systems, APIs, data models, and user interfaces aligned with UX requirements.
- Ensure robust test coverage by contributing to automated testing strategies, including test-driven development practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to improve system integration, performance, and overall platform reliability.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including proven experience in technical leadership or engineering management roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong proficiency with backend and frontend technologies such as Java (Spring Boot), Angular, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Experience building and scaling distributed systems, with an emphasis on performance, security, and maintainability.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to mentor engineers and foster a positive team culture.
- Experience working in Agile environments and contributing to process improvement initiatives.
- Nice to have: AWS experience, familiarity with FHIR standards, and exposure to AI/ML concepts or large-scale systems.
