This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director/Fractional CFO – Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) – Outsourced Accounting & Finance based in the United States.
This senior finance leadership role provides strategic CFO-level support to a portfolio of high-growth CPG and technology companies, many of which are backed by venture capital or private equity.
It combines hands-on financial leadership with high-level advisory responsibilities, supporting founders, CEOs, and boards in making data-driven strategic decisions.
You will act as a trusted fractional CFO, guiding clients through fundraising, investor relations, financial planning, and performance optimization.
The role requires deep expertise in CPG business models, including e-commerce, wholesale, retail, inventory management, and trade spend dynamics.
You will also oversee financial rigor for scaling businesses, including SaaS and subscription-based metrics where applicable.
In addition to client leadership, you will play a key role in mentoring internal finance teams and shaping best practices across engagements.

Accountabilities:
- Serve as fractional CFO for a portfolio of CPG and technology clients, providing strategic financial leadership, analysis, and decision support.
- Guide fundraising efforts including equity and debt financing, investor presentations, board materials, and financial due diligence for VC/PE-backed companies.
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, KPI development, and performance analysis tailored to CPG and technology business models.
- Advise clients on complex financial topics including revenue recognition, unit economics, inventory management, trade spend, and SaaS metrics where applicable.
- Prepare and present board-level reporting, investor decks, and strategic insights to founders, CEOs, and boards of directors.
- Monitor financial performance, identify trends and variances, and provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
- Lead and mentor internal finance teams, including FP&A analysts, controllers, and accountants, ensuring high-quality delivery across client engagements.
- Drive process improvements, automation, and adoption of modern FP&A and AI-enabled financial tools to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to client expansion opportunities and cross-functional service offerings.
- Ensure high-quality execution across all client engagements while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
- 20+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including senior CFO or equivalent leadership roles.
- Proven experience supporting CPG and/or technology companies, particularly in scaling, startup, or high-growth environments.
- Strong expertise in CPG financial drivers including inventory, trade spend, e-commerce, wholesale, and retail models.
- Experience working with VC- and PE-backed companies, including fundraising, investor relations, and board-level reporting.
- Strong understanding of financial modeling, GAAP compliance, KPI development, and performance analytics.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing finance and accounting teams.
- Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and ability to manage multiple client priorities in parallel.
- Familiarity with modern finance tools and AI-enabled platforms (e.g., FP&A systems, automation tools, ChatGPT/Copilot-type solutions) is a plus.
