Controller
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Controller based in the United States.
This is a high-impact finance leadership role responsible for building and owning the financial infrastructure of a fast-scaling SaaS and payments-driven business. You will operate at the center of a complex revenue ecosystem spanning subscriptions, usage-based AI monetization, and large-scale payment processing. The role blends strategic oversight with deep operational ownership, requiring someone equally comfortable closing the books as they are designing scalable financial systems. You will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and transparency while supporting executive decision-making and growth strategy. As the first Controller in the organization, you will help define processes, strengthen controls, and build the foundation for global expansion. This is a hands-on leadership position in a fast-moving environment where precision, ownership, and adaptability are critical.
Accountabilities:
- Own the full financial close process (monthly, quarterly, annual), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong documentation standards.
- Prepare and maintain financial statements, reconciliations, internal controls, and audit-ready reporting infrastructure.
- Lead revenue recognition across SaaS subscriptions, usage-based AI revenue, and payment platform economics under ASC 606.
- Oversee order-to-cash processes, including billing systems (e.g., Stripe), invoicing, settlements, refunds, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and compliance with debt facility covenants and lender reporting requirements.
- Drive multi-state and international tax compliance, including SaaS taxability, indirect taxes, and emerging global obligations (VAT, GST, HST).
- Coordinate accounting operations including payroll, AP/AR, equity processing, and cash management.
- Partner with engineering and data teams to improve financial systems, automation, and data integrity across the tech stack.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with ownership of close, reporting, and revenue recognition processes.
- CPA certification required.
- Deep expertise in ASC 606, including SaaS subscription models, usage-based pricing, and multi-element arrangements.
- Strong understanding of order-to-cash cycles, particularly in Stripe or similar billing environments.
- Experience managing debt facilities, including covenant compliance and lender reporting.
- Hands-on experience with multi-state tax compliance and exposure to international tax frameworks.
- Familiarity with modern finance systems and data environments (e.g., ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with evolving priorities and ambiguity.
- Strong bonus: exposure to payments, fintech, usage-based billing, or AI-driven revenue models.
- Competitive compensation aligned with senior finance leadership roles in high-growth SaaS companies.
- Opportunity to shape and build the finance function from the ground up.
- Exposure to complex, modern revenue models including AI, subscriptions, and payments at scale.
- Flexible, remote-friendly work environment.
- Comprehensive benefits package including healthcare coverage and financial wellness support.
- Equity participation in a high-growth, venture-backed organization.
