Principal Injection Molding Tooling Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Injection Molding Tooling Engineer to lead the full lifecycle of injection mold tooling—from concept through production readiness and continuous improvement. This role partners cross-functionally to deliver high-quality, scalable, and cost-effective tooling solutions that support technology products in the Utilities & Energy sector.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead evaluation and definition of tooling packages for RFQs on new products
  • Conduct mold flow analysis and provide design feedback to improve manufacturability, quality, and cycle time
  • Own specification, quotation, procurement, and lifecycle management of injection mold tooling
  • Facilitate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and identify tooling-driven process improvements
  • Develop and standardize SOPs, work instructions, and best practices for tooling setup, maintenance, and operation
  • Partner with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot tooling and process issues in real time
  • Drive improvements in OEE through data-driven analysis and participation in manufacturing reviews
  • Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities through tooling redesign, standardization, and new technologies
  • Support automation and advanced manufacturing initiatives to enhance production capability

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Plastics, or related field) or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in injection molding tooling design, procurement, and production environments
  • Proven expertise in mold flow analysis and applying results to tooling and part design decisions
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes, materials, and tooling construction
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence technical outcomes
  • Experience developing SOPs and driving continuous improvement in manufacturing
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in fast-paced production environments
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related field
  • Experience in industrial equipment or technology manufacturing environments
  • Background in automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing systems
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience managing global tooling suppliers and vendor relationships
  • Knowledge of emerging materials, sustainability practices, or digital manufacturing technologies
