Assistant General Counsel

This is a high-impact legal role within a fast-moving, global business environment operating at the intersection of food, beverage, and nutrition innovation. The Assistant General Counsel will serve as a trusted advisor to commercial and cross-functional teams, helping shape and support strategic business decisions. The role involves handling complex commercial agreements and providing practical, business-oriented legal counsel in a highly collaborative setting. You will work closely with stakeholders across operations, procurement, sales, and regulatory functions to enable growth while managing legal and contractual risk. This position offers strong visibility across the organization and the opportunity to influence key commercial outcomes. It is well suited for a seasoned attorney who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys balancing legal rigor with commercial pragmatism.
Accountabilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of complex commercial agreements, including supply, customer, vendor, and co-manufacturing contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and legal risk mitigation.
- Provide strategic legal guidance on contract interpretation, risk assessment, and commercial terms to support informed decision-making across business units.
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual disputes and coordinate responses to customers, suppliers, and third parties in a timely and effective manner.
- Monitor evolving legal and regulatory developments relevant to food-related industries and translate them into actionable guidance for the business.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support commercial initiatives and ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5–10+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment, with a strong focus on corporate and commercial contracts.
- Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements in a fast-paced, business-driven setting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess legal risk and provide practical, business-focused solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail and responsiveness.
- Experience in food & beverage, food safety, chemicals, or regulatory environments is a plus.
- Competitive annual base salary ranging from $146,800 to $261,000, with eligibility for performance-based incentive compensation.
