Corporate Communications Coordinator
The Corporate Communications Coordinator will oversee efforts surrounding the media and PR outreach for the team’s business and philanthropic efforts, in addition to other Ford Field events and concerts. This role will also cultivate, pitch and execute various stadium, community relations or business storytelling opportunities to help elevate the brand and business profile locally and nationally.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):
The Corporate Communications Coordinator will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:
- Work closely with the Vice President of Communications, Director of Corporate Communications and entire Communications team to distribute key information and messaging of the Corporate Communications department and help build the strategy as well as execution of public relations initiatives of the Detroit Lions organization
- Write, compile and distribute monthly media coverage reports highlighting the off-the-field storytelling in support of the Lions’ brand and business.
- Assist in authoring press releases, media advisories, and overall communication to media members
- Execute on-site responsibilities of the day-to-day and season-long PR campaigns of the Detroit Lions community relations department efforts. This includes NFL-led initiatives, as well as the giving and fundraising labors of the Detroit Lions Foundation. Responsibilities also extend to Detroit Lions Legends media obligations and Detroit Lions Inspire Change social justice work
- Help advise Corporate Partnerships and Marketing teams on messaging pertaining to Ford Field stadium PR strategy, including the Detroit Lions gameday experience, stadium-wide events and other facility-focused storytelling
- Develop the press and media strategy for the Detroit Lions Entertainment teams consisting of the Detroit Lions Cheerleaders, the Detroit Lions Drumline (Honolulu Boom) and the Detroit Lions Mascot, Roary
- Support the PR responsibilities of fan engagement events, youth football education programs and other marketing and brand campaigns, with an emphasis on the Detroit Lions High School Girls Flag Football program
- Invite and accommodate media on-site at Detroit Lions community and business events.
- Serve as secondary media relations contact for Detroit Lions business units
- Assist with copywriting and copy editing across the organization
- Build relationships across the business operation to establish consistent lines of communication on storytelling opportunities
- Support Director of Corporate Communications with International media storytelling and media relationships

- Will adjust work schedule to meet departmental demands, including being available to work a non-standard schedule in support of football operations, events, and other business or community relations activities, including holidays and weekends as needed.
- Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated into the position description if they are ongoing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s (or greater) with a focus in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Business preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in public relations or journalism required. Experience with an NFL team or other professional sports team preferred
- Social media experience with brands preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required
- Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment and discretion
- Excellent energy and enthusiasm, and passion for outreach and engagement
- Self-motivated and committed to excellence
- Must provide own transportation and housing
- Knowledge of, or willing to learn, media database and email communications software
- Experience working in diverse environments with the ability to connect with individuals of all statures. Interact with employees, community partners, and club affiliates in a professional manner
- Strong strategic thinker and problem solver with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Flexible and able to contribute effectively as part of a professional team
- Ability to work accurately, with interruptions, to meet aggressive deadlines and handle multiple priorities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays required
- May require work out of both the Ford Field Management Office and the Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park
