This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Communications Specialist based in the United States.
In this role, you will take ownership of building and shaping the external voice of a newly established, mission-driven initiative focused on modernizing education finance data infrastructure in the United States. You will be responsible for creating clarity around highly technical, policy-relevant work and making it accessible to researchers, policymakers, and education leaders. The position blends content strategy, digital communications, and audience development in a highly analytical and purpose-driven environment. You will design how the organization is discovered online, including through search engines and AI-driven discovery tools. This is a foundational role where you will define communications systems, not just execute them. You will work closely with a small, high-impact team to build credibility, consistency, and visibility from the ground up.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will own the development and execution of the organization’s communications function, ensuring clarity, consistency, and discoverability across all channels.
- Lead the strategy and execution of organic audience growth across digital platforms, building and maintaining targeted distribution lists for researchers, policymakers, analysts, and education leaders.
- Develop and manage an editorial calendar, ensuring consistent, high-quality publishing aligned with organizational priorities and technical subject matter expertise.
- Shape content discoverability by optimizing materials for both traditional search engines and AI-driven discovery systems, including generative search environments.
- Create and maintain editorial standards, style guides, and content frameworks to ensure a consistent and credible organizational voice.
- Support thought leadership efforts through digital publishing, stakeholder engagement, and coordination of external-facing communications materials.
- Translate complex technical and data-driven content into accessible messaging tailored for multiple stakeholder audiences without oversimplification.
- Monitor performance of communications outputs and continuously identify opportunities to improve reach, engagement, and visibility.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate brings experience in modern digital communications and a strong understanding of how content ecosystems function across platforms.
- Experience in communications, content strategy, journalism, marketing, or a related field, with a strong emphasis on digital-first execution.
- Demonstrated ability to build and grow organic audiences through multi-channel content strategy and distribution planning.
- Working knowledge of SEO and generative engine optimization (GEO), including how AI tools and search platforms surface and recommend content.
- Strong writing, editing, and editorial judgment with a focus on clarity, structure, and consistency.
- Ability to translate technical, policy, or data-heavy topics into clear and accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with presentation and content tools such as Google Docs, Google Slides, or PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage editorial workflows and content schedules in a remote-first environment.
Benefits:
- Annual salary range: $70,000 to $85,000 (based on experience, skills, and qualifications)
- Fully remote role (U.S.-based candidates only)
- Structured transparency in compensation progression, with opportunities for salary growth over time
- Travel requirement of approximately 6–8 trips per year for in-person collaboration and partner engagement
- Opportunity to join a mission-driven, early-stage initiative shaping national education finance data infrastructure
