This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an IT Operations Data Historian Administrator based in the United States.
This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and integrity of enterprise data historian systems that capture and manage critical time-series operational data. You will play a key part in supporting industrial and IT environments where real-time data drives decision-making and operational efficiency. The position combines hands-on system administration with data engineering and performance optimization responsibilities. You will work across IT, engineering, and operations teams in a highly collaborative environment. The role involves maintaining complex data pipelines, ensuring system availability, and improving data quality standards. This is a technical, problem-solving-oriented position ideal for someone who thrives in critical infrastructure environments and data-driven operations.
Accountabilities:
- Administer, monitor, and maintain enterprise data historian platforms to ensure high availability, reliability, and optimal system performance.
- Manage time-series data collection processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency across operational systems.
- Configure and optimize data tags, compression settings, retention policies, and ingestion pipelines.
- Perform system upgrades, patches, backups, recovery procedures, and general Windows-based server administration.
- Troubleshoot data issues such as latency, gaps, and integrity problems while improving system stability and performance.
- Support real-time and batch data flows while collaborating with cross-functional IT, engineering, and operations teams.
- Develop documentation, operational procedures, and best practices to support system governance and user adoption.
- Identify automation opportunities and optimize data queries, reporting, and storage strategies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with data historian platforms such as OSIsoft PI, AVEVA/Wonderware Historian, Ignition, or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of time-series data management, industrial protocols (OPC, MQTT, Modbus), and data collection systems.
- Experience with Windows Server environments and core system administration principles.
- Proficiency in scripting and querying languages such as SQL, PowerShell, and/or Python.
- Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, TCP/IP, and firewall concepts.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
