We are looking for an experienced Design Program Manager to support multi-disciplinary hardware development projects within Ring's Industrial Design team. In this role, you will provide strategic project management expertise, ensuring efficient execution, cross-functional collaboration, and risk mitigation throughout the product development lifecycle.
You will oversee the operational execution of complex projects from initiation to completion, working closely with stakeholders to align requirements, manage schedules, and ensure seamless communication across internal and external teams. Given the global nature of our operations, you will coordinate across multiple offices, time zones, and hemispheres, maintaining alignment between Industrial Designers, CMF Designers, Researchers, and Engineers to ensure design efforts are effectively managed and delivered on schedule.
Key job responsibilities
Industrial Design Process Management – Own the industrial design development process and schedules, ensuring timely execution. Communicate project status to executive teams and coordinate design activities across cross-functional teams to maintain alignment.
Process Optimization & Team Support – Identify team and project needs related to process, tools, documentation, and asset management. Drive improvements to ensure design team members operate at peak efficiency.
Project Coordination & Execution – Collaborate with Industrial Design leadership to make key project decisions, including requirements gathering, scheduling, resource allocation, and approval processes. Define and manage project timelines and budgets from initiation to completion.
Design Standards & Review Process – Support the industrial design team in defining and communicating design standards. Facilitate design approvals and ensure production samples meet established criteria.
Operational & Logistical Support – Assist the design team with logistics related to the design process, including model orders, travel arrangements, meeting planning, and design review documentation.
Cross-Functional Communication – Provide clear and structured updates to team leads and executive management on project status, resource requirements, challenges, and priorities. Ensure seamless coordination between design, engineering, and production teams.
Vendor & Financial Administration – Oversee vendor liaison responsibilities, managing budgets, Requests for Quotation (RFQs), Purchase Orders (POs), and vendor enrollment to streamline procurement and external collaborations.
Global Coordination – Sync with designers, engineers, and program managers across different time zones, participating in weekly early-morning or late-evening online meetings. Travel internationally 1–2 times annually as needed.
AI-Driven Design Operations — focuses on using AI to accelerate iteration, automate documentation and streamline tracking
AI-Enabled Quality Control and Compliance — focuses on leveraging AI for inspection, color and texture compliance and production evaluation- Experience managing cross-functional projects and initiatives
- Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines, or experience in a fast-paced, high-tech company
- 5+ years of experience in program management, project management, or related roles within hardware product development or consumer electronics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate project objectives, status updates, and key milestones to diverse stakeholders including internal design teams, cross-functional product development teams, and external suppliers
- Expertise in planning, resourcing, process development, communication, and timeline management across projects, particularly within product and engineering initiatives
- Experience implementing clear reporting structures and proactively communicating project status to facilitate informed decision-making and maintain project momentum- Experience in consumer electronics or smart home hardware product development
- Ability to partner with technology leads and consultants to create holistic designs that integrate technical constraints with creative vision
- Agile mindset, supporting iterative development and pivoting intelligently in response to evolving project requirements
- Experience managing vendor relationships, procurement processes, and project budgets
- Familiarity with industrial design processes, CMF (Color, Material, Finish) development, and manufacturing workflows
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project management certification
- Experience coordinating across international teams and time zones
- Willingness to travel internationally 1–2 times per year
