This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a QA Engineer – Layer 2/3 based in India.
This role sits at the intersection of advanced networking and software quality assurance, focusing on validating complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 network functions in high-performance environments. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering, product, and automation teams to ensure robust, scalable, and reliable network solutions. The position involves designing and executing comprehensive test strategies across routing, switching, traffic engineering, and service provisioning domains. You will also contribute to building and maintaining lab environments that replicate real-world network conditions for accurate validation. A strong emphasis is placed on automation, enabling efficient regression coverage and continuous quality improvement. This is a highly collaborative role where your work directly impacts product stability, customer experience, and large-scale network performance.
Accountabilities:
- Translate high-level requirements into detailed test strategies and comprehensive test coverage for Layer 2/3 network functionalities, ensuring end-to-end validation of features and customer workflows.
- Design, execute, and maintain test plans across routing, switching, service provisioning, performance, and fault management, tracking execution and progress using test management tools.
- Build and maintain lab environments aligned with real-world network scenarios, coordinating infrastructure setup, equipment needs, and configuration with engineering teams.
- Validate integration of third-party and open-source components within complex network software ecosystems to ensure seamless interoperability.
- Analyze test results, document findings, and collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot, reproduce, and resolve critical defects.
- Develop and enhance automation frameworks by converting manual test cases into scalable automated scripts and reviewing peer-developed automation code.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to improving team processes, test methodologies, and overall quality practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in system or network testing within complex software or telecom environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Layer 2/3 protocols such as BGP, IGP, MPLS, LDP, Segment Routing, RSVP-TE, and Ethernet services.
- Experience working with traffic generation tools such as IXIA or Spirent for performance and scalability validation.
- Proficiency in test automation using Python and/or REST-based or UI-based automation frameworks.
- Strong understanding of UNIX/Linux systems, including system administration and deployment in physical and virtual environments.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware ESXi or OpenStack.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in cross-functional engineering teams.
- Nice to have: exposure to SDN, network virtualization, Open vSwitch, microservices-based architectures, and traffic engineering concepts.
