Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific and contribute to critical scientific research and innovation. As a Field Service Engineer III, you'll provide expert installation, maintenance, and repair services for sophisticated analytical and microscopy equipment. Working with advanced technology, you'll deliver outstanding technical support while building strong relationships with customers across research institutions, universities, and industrial facilities. You'll resolve complex issues, conduct preventive maintenance, and train users to ensure optimal system performance. A Day in the Life:
Provide expert installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, and repair services for advanced analytical instruments and microscopy systems. Support customers by diagnosing complex hardware and software issues, conducting preventive maintenance, delivering technical training, and ensuring optimal equipment performance. Build and maintain strong customer relationships while collaborating with internal teams to resolve technical challenges and support scientific research environments.
What to expect:
• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate sophisticated analytical and microscopy equipment
• Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and system performance issues
• Perform preventive maintenance and system optimization activities
• Provide customer training and technical guidance on equipment operation and best practices
• Build and maintain positive relationships with customers across research, academic, and industrial settings
• Interpret technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings to support service activities
• Utilize Windows operating systems, networking tools, and business software in daily operations
• Travel to customer sites as required and respond to urgent service needs when necessary
• Follow all applicable safety protocols and work in laboratory and cleanroom environments
• Collaborate with colleagues and support the development and mentoring of others when applicable
Keys to Success:
Education
Advanced Degree plus 3 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analytical instruments. Preferred fields of study include Electronics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
Experience
• Experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating advanced analytical instrumentation
• Demonstrated expertise with ultra-high vacuum systems, high voltage electronics, and complex electro-mechanical systems
• Experience providing technical support in customer-facing environments
• Experience mentoring and training others preferred
• Ongoing technical training and certifications required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities for hardware and software issues
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to build positive customer relationships
• Professional working proficiency in English; additional languages beneficial
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings
• Proficiency with Windows operating systems, networking, and standard business software
• Ability to work independently while maintaining strong team collaboration
• Availability to respond to urgent customer needs
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel 25–50%
