Job Description
About the Role
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Business Analyst II / Product Owner II to help deliver software products that support scientific discovery, laboratory efficiency, and connected instrument workflows.
In this role, you will work with product managers, customers, engineering, UX, QA, and cross-functional teams to understand user needs, define product requirements, and support delivery of high-quality software solutions. You will help translate customer and business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and product backlog items.
This role is well suited for someone who brings business analysis or product ownership experience, understands laboratory or scientific workflows, and wants to grow in software product leadership.
Purpose
The Business Analyst II / Product Owner II represents customer and business needs within Agile software teams. This role is responsible for defining, refining, and prioritizing product requirements so teams can deliver valuable, usable, and compliant software features.
The role requires ownership of assigned product areas, close collaboration with stakeholders, and the ability to support roadmap execution from discovery through release. The role also includes identifying practical opportunities to use AI, automation, and data-driven capabilities to improve customer workflows, product outcomes, and team efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with product managers, customers, senior product owners, and business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and clarify business and user needs.
- Own assigned features, product areas, or backlog items from discovery through development, validation, and release readiness.
- Translate product roadmaps and customer needs into epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and use cases.
- Manage and refine the product backlog to ensure requirements are clear, prioritized, testable, and aligned with business value.
- Partner with engineering, UX, architecture, QA, DevOps, and validation teams to build shared understanding of scope, requirements, dependencies, and delivery goals.
- Act as a customer and business representative during Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
- Support release planning by clarifying scope, reviewing readiness, coordinating dependencies, and contributing to release documentation.
- Document and validate workflows for laboratory instruments, connected lab systems, flow cytometry applications, flow analyzers, and scientific data-driven software.
- Help define and improve operational processes for laboratory software, instrument connectivity, data acquisition, analysis, reporting, and compliance-related workflows.
- Analyze customer feedback, product usage insights, defects, and support trends to recommend product improvements.
- Identify opportunities to use AI, automation, analytics, and intelligent assistants to improve product workflows, requirement quality, customer productivity, and internal delivery efficiency.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define AI-related product expectations, including user value, data needs, responsible use, usability, validation needs, and compliance impact.
- Support the definition and validation of non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability, reliability, usability, security, privacy, cost, supportability, and maintainability.
- Track risks, dependencies, open questions, and scope changes; raise concerns early and recommend practical mitigation options.
- Contribute to go-to-market readiness, customer enablement content, release notes, and internal training material.
- Promote Agile practices, Lean-Agile values, continuous improvement, and collaborative ways of working.
- Follow applicable QMS and ISMS standards, including ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001, and support audit and compliance activities as needed.

- Experience working in Agile environments using Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, or similar frameworks.
- Experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, process flows, use cases, and functional specifications.
- Experience managing or supporting a product backlog in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
- Experience working with engineering, QA, UX, architecture, DevOps, and product management teams.
- Experience translating business needs and scientific workflows into clear, testable software requirements.
- Experience or working knowledge of laboratory instruments, flow cytometry systems, flow analyzers, connected instruments, scientific workflows, or related laboratory applications.
