Sr. Tax Accountant

This role sits within a high-growth, global SaaS environment and focuses on leading complex indirect tax operations across domestic and international jurisdictions. You will act as a key subject matter expert for sales & use tax, VAT/GST, and digital services tax compliance while helping scale tax processes in a rapidly evolving business. The position blends technical tax expertise with systems thinking, requiring close collaboration with Finance, Engineering, Product, Billing, and Legal teams. You will play a critical role in ensuring tax accuracy across high-volume transactional data while supporting automation and process optimization initiatives. Accountabilities:
- Oversee end-to-end preparation, review, and filing of sales & use tax, VAT/GST, business licenses, and property tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor and assess domestic and international tax regulations, including SaaS, digital goods, and economic nexus rules, to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Manage indirect tax systems and configurations, ensuring accurate tax calculations and scalable, automated reporting workflows.
- Support audits by coordinating documentation, responding to information requests, and helping defend established tax positions.
- Perform monthly tax accruals and reconcile indirect tax accounts within ERP systems, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Oversee exemption certificate processes, including collection, validation, and ongoing maintenance.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Billing, Finance, and Legal teams to evaluate tax implications of new offerings and features.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, including sales & use tax, VAT, and GST, ideally with a mix of public accounting and corporate experience.
- Strong understanding of SaaS business models, digital products, and associated taxability and sourcing rules.
- Hands-on experience with tax compliance systems and ERP platforms (NetSuite experience strongly preferred; Stripe Tax a plus).
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with ability to work with large, high-volume transactional datasets.
- Strong analytical mindset with proven ability to identify issues and implement process improvements or automation solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear language for non-finance stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or Master of Taxation is a strong plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities and high growth.
- Competitive annual salary range of $91,000 – $114,000
