Roving Marine Safety Auditor

This is a field-intensive maritime safety role focused on ensuring vessel compliance with international safety standards and company regulations across a global fleet. You will conduct onboard audits across multiple vessel locations, assessing operational safety practices, identifying risks, and ensuring adherence to frameworks such as SOLAS, IMO, and the ISM Code. The role requires extensive travel and hands-on engagement with vessel crews, making it both highly dynamic and operationally critical. You will play a key role in strengthening safety culture across the fleet by providing actionable insights, recommendations, and follow-up support. Strong attention to detail, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively in high-pressure environments are essential. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence maritime safety standards directly while working in a globally mobile capacity.

Accountabilities

Conduct onboard marine safety audits across vessels, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations, company policies, and operational safety standards.

  • Perform detailed inspections onboard vessels to identify safety risks, non-compliance issues, and operational hazards.
  • Prepare clear and structured audit reports, including findings, corrective actions, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with vessel crews and management teams to promote best practices in marine safety.
  • Monitor implementation of corrective actions and ensure continuous improvement across safety processes.
  • Stay updated on maritime safety regulations, including SOLAS, IMO guidelines, and the ISM Code.
  • Support safety training initiatives and awareness programs to strengthen onboard safety culture.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of all audit documentation and compliance records.
  • Requirements

    This role requires strong maritime operational experience, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to conduct independent safety audits in a seagoing environment.

    • Minimum Certificate of Competency (Class 2 or above) in Nautical Studies.
    • Strong knowledge of maritime safety regulations, including SOLAS, IMO standards, and the ISM Code.
    • Proven experience conducting safety audits and producing clear, structured technical reports.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with vessel crews and management.
    • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work onboard vessels for audit assignments.
    • NEBOSH, ISO 19011 Lead Auditor certification, or equivalent qualifications are highly desirable.
    • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to operate independently in remote and operationally demanding environments.
    • Willingness to travel 60–70% of the time and work from home base when not at sea.
