Azure Data Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Azure Data Engineer based in the United States.
This role sits at the center of a large-scale data modernization journey, focused on building and optimizing next-generation cloud data platforms on Microsoft Azure. You will design and deliver scalable data solutions that power analytics, reporting, and enterprise decision-making across multiple business domains. You will play a key role in shaping lakehouse architecture, advancing Azure Fabric adoption, and modernizing legacy data systems. Accountabilities:
In this role, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-grade data platforms and pipelines built on Microsoft Azure, ensuring performance, scalability, and governance across the data ecosystem.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms using Azure services such as ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, and Microsoft Fabric
- Develop and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using Fabric pipelines, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Azure Data Factory
- Implement and support lakehouse and Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) across enterprise datasets
- Integrate data from diverse sources including ERP systems, APIs, streaming data, and MDM/PIM platforms
- Build and maintain data models (dimensional, star/snowflake) to support analytics and reporting needs
- Enable Power BI semantic models and datasets for enterprise reporting and self-service analytics
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Azure DevOps and GitHub, ensuring automation and reliability
- Ensure data quality, governance, lineage, and security using tools such as Microsoft Purview
- Lead cloud migration and modernization initiatives, including transitions from legacy BI and ETL systems
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines to ensure high performance and reliability
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and analytics teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions
- Contribute to engineering standards, reusable frameworks, and best practices across the data organization
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics roles
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data platforms
- Strong experience with Azure services including ADLS, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, and Microsoft Fabric
- Solid expertise in PySpark, Spark SQL, Python, and SQL development
- Experience building lakehouse architectures and implementing Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) frameworks
- Strong knowledge of data modeling techniques including dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, and 3NF
- Experience integrating structured and unstructured data from APIs, event streams, and enterprise systems
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, and Azure DevOps
- Familiarity with DevOps, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, ARM, or Bicep) is a plus
- Experience with Power BI, semantic models, and enterprise reporting solutions
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Excellent communication skills and experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, evolving environments
