Parametric is part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, the asset management division of Morgan Stanley. We partner with advisors, institutions, and consultants to build portfolios focused on what's important to them and their clients. A leader in custom solutions for more than 30 years, we help investors access efficient market exposures, solve implementation challenges, and design multi-asset portfolios that respond to their evolving needs. This role is part of Parametric's hybrid working model, which includes working in the office 3 days a week and choosing to work remotely or in the office the remaining days of the week.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Core Platform team at Parametric is responsible for enhancing the quality and velocity of engineering outcomes across the technology organization through platform-level capabilities, accelerating engineering teams and enabling them to focus on delivering business value.
This team delivers Parametric’s platform-level service and development capabilities. These efforts seek to optimize the organization’s technology posture by providing common solutions to shared problems which drive standardization, accelerated delivery, reduced risk and cost, and scalable, high-performing results. The team serves engineering teams across the organization and is responsible for supporting their success.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the design, development, and integration of our Java Core Library offerings. This role partners with internal engineering teams to identify common needs, support adoption and integration with shared Java platform components, and build reusable platform capabilities across domains such as security, observability, API connectivity, and data access.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and evolve shared Java libraries and framework capabilities used across multiple engineering teams.
- Partner with internal engineering teams to understand, document, and prioritize technical requirements.
- Guide teams in the adoption of shared platform components, including integration patterns, migration support, and technical documentation.
- Define reusable patterns and paved-road solutions for security, observability, API integration, and data access.
- Improve engineering standards and developer productivity through automation, standardization, and high-quality platform abstractions.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure code quality, correctness, and reliability.
- Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities while maintaining strong code quality across Java Core Library initiatives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience: 7+ years
Skill set: Java, Software Design, Spring Boot, RDBMS, AWS
Primary Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Java software engineering, including proficiency with Java 17+.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical peers and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of core Java language features and runtime behavior, including the type system, generics, reflection, concurrency, and the memory model.
- Experience building software, libraries, or frameworks consumed by multiple development teams.
- Experience using enterprise Java frameworks, including Spring Boot and Hibernate.
- Experience using test-driven development, JUnit, and mocking frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and data access patterns.
- Hands-on experience building cloud-based solutions, preferably on AWS.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Testcontainers.
- Proficiency with source control, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred), and observability tooling (Datadog preferred).
- Experience working effectively within agile software delivery teams.
- Proven ability to develop subject matter expertise and apply it effectively within assigned domains.
- Familiarity with AI and related technologies, with the ability to apply them in a business or technical context
Good to Have Skills
- Financial services industry experience.
- Experience with API standards, authentication/authorization patterns, and observability conventions.
- Experience improving code quality standards through automated tooling, such as IDEs and AST services.
- Experience deploying services using IaC technologies such as Terraform.
- Experience developing CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with non-relational persistence technologies, such as DynamoDB.
- Experience presenting technical contributions and innovations to technical colleagues.
