This role offers a unique opportunity to support mission-critical enterprise IT infrastructure in a highly dynamic, onboard cruise ship environment. You will act as the primary onsite technical expert responsible for maintaining and optimizing network, server, and virtualization systems that ensure seamless digital operations at sea. The position plays a key role in supporting a major VMware-to-Hyper-V migration initiative, leveraging modern virtualization and backup technologies. You will work closely with remote engineering teams while independently managing complex infrastructure challenges in a mobile, high-availability setting. This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring strong technical depth and the ability to operate under minimal supervision. It is ideal for an experienced infrastructure engineer who thrives in fast-paced, remote operational environments.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will serve as the lead onsite technical resource responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and continuity of enterprise IT systems aboard cruise ship environments.
- Provide Level 3 support for complex networking, server, virtualization, and infrastructure issues in production environments.
- Support and execute VMware-to-Hyper-V migration initiatives using Veeam technologies.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco networking infrastructure, including routing, switching, wireless, and firewall systems.
- Administer and support Microsoft Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy services.
- Manage Hyper-V and VMware virtualization platforms, ensuring stability and performance across onboard systems.
- Perform hands-on data center operations, including hardware installations, cabling, upgrades, and equipment replacements.
- Execute infrastructure maintenance and upgrades with minimal disruption to onboard operations.
- Coordinate with remote engineering teams and stakeholders to resolve incidents and implement changes effectively.
Requirements
This role requires strong enterprise infrastructure expertise, hands-on technical capability, and the ability to operate independently in remote and high-demand environments.
- 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise network and infrastructure environments.
- Proven experience providing Level 3 support for complex systems and production infrastructure.
- Strong expertise in Cisco networking (routing, switching, wireless, and firewalls).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Solid experience with virtualization platforms, including Hyper-V and VMware vSphere.
- Experience supporting high-availability production environments with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in remote operational settings.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote teams and stakeholders.
- Valid U.S. passport required due to travel and onboard deployment requirements.
