Cloud Engineer (AWS)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Cloud Engineer (AWS) based in the United States.
In this role, you will contribute to the modernization of a federal enterprise data platform by designing, implementing, and supporting scalable cloud-native infrastructure on AWS. You will work at the intersection of cloud engineering, DevSecOps, and platform operations, enabling secure, automated, and highly available environments for mission-critical systems. This position involves building Infrastructure as Code, optimizing CI/CD pipelines, and improving system reliability through automation and proactive monitoring. You will collaborate closely with architects, data engineers, and cybersecurity teams to deliver compliant and high-performing cloud solutions. The role is well-suited for a hands-on engineer who thrives in complex, regulated environments and is passionate about cloud automation and continuous improvement. Your work will directly support the stability, security, and evolution of large-scale federal cloud infrastructure.
Accountabilities
- Design, implement, and support scalable AWS cloud infrastructure and platform services in alignment with enterprise and federal requirements.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform to enable consistent, repeatable, and automated deployments.
- Build, enhance, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and other DevSecOps tools to streamline application delivery.
- Manage and support AWS services including EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and VPC to ensure secure and efficient cloud operations.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, system monitoring, operational workflows, and maintenance processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support platform operations including troubleshooting, incident response, performance optimization, and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, data engineers, and cybersecurity professionals to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
- Monitor system health, availability, and performance metrics across cloud environments to ensure operational excellence.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and deployment standards to support consistency and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, systems engineering, or platform operations roles.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with AWS cloud environments.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, particularly Terraform.
- Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and working within DevSecOps environments.
- Hands-on expertise with AWS services such as EKS, Lambda, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and VPC.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills in complex cloud environments.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across technical teams.
- Experience working in federal government or highly regulated environments is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerized environments, and EKS administration is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Databricks platforms, data engineering workflows, and cloud security frameworks such as FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST is a plus.
- AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, or SysOps Administrator are preferred.
