As a Manager of Software Engineering, you will lead the modernization, delivery, and ongoing reliability of a mission-critical software platform operating within a highly regulated environment. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, giving you the opportunity to shape engineering strategy while guiding a distributed team of talented developers. You will collaborate closely with product, architecture, security, and operations stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions, improve platform stability, and drive long-term modernization initiatives. A key focus of the role is leveraging AI-powered engineering practices to accelerate development, enhance productivity, and improve software quality. Accountabilities:

  • Lead and develop a blended team of onshore and offshore engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through system design reviews, architectural guidance, code reviews, and complex problem-solving activities.
  • Define and execute a long-term modernization roadmap for a mission-critical platform while maintaining production stability and meeting business and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the adoption of modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development workflows, automated testing, code quality improvements, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Oversee technical execution, sprint planning, capacity management, and delivery outcomes to ensure predictable and high-quality software releases.
  • Maintain accountability for platform reliability, performance, availability, and operational readiness across production environments.
  • Lead incident response efforts, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning to continuously improve system resilience.
  • Collaborate with product, business, security, architecture, compliance, and operations teams to align technical initiatives with organizational priorities.
  • Ensure software solutions meet standards for security, compliance, maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Guide the design, governance, and optimization of data warehouse solutions, reporting systems, and enterprise data integration processes.
  • Identify technical debt, prioritize modernization opportunities, and implement practical solutions that support long-term platform health.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, trade-offs, and strategic recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience working with complex enterprise or legacy systems.
    • 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership role such as Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or Staff Engineer.
    • Proven ability to lead engineering teams while remaining technically engaged and credible.
    • Experience managing globally distributed and offshore engineering teams.
    • Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, code quality practices, and modern software development methodologies.
    • Experience modernizing legacy platforms within regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, or benefits administration is highly desirable.
    • Proficiency with enterprise application architectures, relational databases, system integrations, batch processing, and scalable backend systems.
    • Experience implementing AI-assisted or agent-based development practices to improve engineering productivity and software delivery.
    • Knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, ETL processes, and enterprise reporting solutions.
    • Experience with SSIS, SSRS, ETL modernization initiatives, and enterprise data integration workflows is preferred.
    • Strong project management, planning, prioritization, and delivery management skills.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the capacity to translate technical concepts into business value.
    • Demonstrated success balancing platform stability, modernization efforts, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.
    • Ability to mentor engineers, develop talent, and build high-performing technical teams.
