This role offers the opportunity to lead and develop a high-performing claims team responsible for managing commercial general liability cases across multiple jurisdictions. You will oversee the full lifecycle of claims, ensuring accurate investigation, fair evaluation, and effective resolution of moderate to complex matters. The position plays a key role in maintaining strong technical standards while improving operational efficiency and customer outcomes. You will act as both a technical expert and people leader, guiding adjusters through complex coverage, liability, and litigation challenges. Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of claims professionals handling commercial general liability claims, ensuring strong technical execution and consistent performance standards across the team.
- Assign and oversee claims workload based on complexity, severity, and individual adjuster expertise to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance in coverage analysis, liability investigations, damages evaluation, negotiation strategy, and litigation management.
- Conduct regular file reviews, audits, and claim roundtables to ensure quality, compliance, and adherence to best practices.
- Approve reserves and payments within designated authority levels while escalating complex or high-severity matters as needed.
- Drive a customer-centric approach that enhances stakeholder satisfaction and ensures timely, fair claim resolutions.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and support strategic initiatives to enhance claims operations and organizational performance.
- Manage performance management activities including coaching, evaluations, training, and career development planning for team members.
- 10+ years of experience handling commercial general liability claims, including exposure to moderate and high severity bodily injury cases.
- 3+ years of leadership or management experience preferred, with a strong track record of coaching and developing claims professionals.
- Deep understanding of insurance coverage principles, claims handling practices, and multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments.
- Strong analytical and contractual interpretation skills, particularly in evaluating liability and risk transfer.
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively and manage complex claim resolutions from investigation through settlement or litigation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and lead diverse teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with claims management systems and business technology tools.
- Emotional intelligence, adaptability, and sound judgment in decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; valid claims adjuster license or eligibility to obtain one in relevant jurisdictions.
