FinOps Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a FinOps Lead based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of cloud financial management, governance, and enterprise-scale optimization within a complex federal cloud environment. You will lead end-to-end FinOps strategy, ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency across large-scale cloud spend while aligning with strict public sector fiscal policies. The position focuses on building strong financial governance frameworks, driving cost optimization initiatives, and improving forecasting accuracy across multi-cloud environments. You will partner closely with engineering, procurement, and finance stakeholders to ensure cloud consumption is measurable, controlled, and optimized. This is a high-impact leadership role where your work directly influences budget efficiency, operational accountability, and long-term cloud sustainability. It is well suited for someone who thrives in analytical, mission-driven environments with large-scale financial complexity.

Accountabilities

  • Lead cloud financial governance, including chargeback/showback models, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with federal fiscal policies.
  • Oversee cloud cost optimization strategies, including RI/SP modeling, usage efficiency, and long-term spend reduction initiatives.
  • Manage financial operations for large-scale cloud environments, including $30M+ annual spend oversight.
  • Perform variance analysis, reconciliation, and forecasting to ensure accurate financial planning and reporting.
  • Drive anomaly detection and consumption trend analysis to identify cost risks and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop executive-level dashboards and financial performance reports using data visualization tools.
  • Support cloud procurement strategies, including credit usage, commitments, and vendor financial alignment.
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to ensure financial transparency and operational accountability.
  • Requirements

    The ideal candidate brings deep experience in IT financial management and cloud FinOps practices, with strong analytical capabilities and proven success operating in large-scale, regulated environments. You should be comfortable translating complex financial and technical data into actionable insights for executive stakeholders.

    • 7+ years of experience in IT financial management or related fields.
    • 4+ years of direct FinOps or cloud financial management experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, IT, or a related field.
    • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) required.
    • Cloud financial certification (AWS, Azure, or equivalent) required.
    • Strong experience managing cloud budgets, forecasting, and financial governance frameworks.
    • Proven ability to manage and optimize $30M+ cloud spend.
    • Strong skills in data analysis, financial modeling, and forecasting.
    • Experience building dashboards and financial reporting tools.
    • Strong communication skills with ability to engage both technical and executive audiences.
    • Familiarity with federal budgeting, oversight, or public sector financial environments.
