Senior QA / SDET - Backbase
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior QA / SDET – Backbase based in Canada.
This role sits at the core of delivering high-quality digital banking experiences for financial institutions, with a strong focus on mobile and platform reliability. You will be responsible for ensuring that complex Backbase-powered applications meet the highest standards of performance, security, and usability across iOS and Android environments. Working in an agile, client-facing setting, you will collaborate closely with developers, product teams, and stakeholders across distributed teams. The role combines hands-on test automation with strategic quality ownership, requiring both technical depth and a strong consultative mindset. You will contribute directly to the stability and scalability of digital banking solutions used by credit unions and other financial institutions. Accountabilities
This role is responsible for ensuring end-to-end software quality across mobile banking applications built on the Backbase platform. You will design, execute, and maintain comprehensive testing strategies while working closely with cross-functional teams in agile delivery environments.
- Design and execute test plans, test cases, and testing scenarios to validate application quality and functionality
- Perform functional, regression, UAT, performance, security, load, and accessibility testing across mobile applications
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks for Android and iOS platforms
- Write and execute test automation using tools such as Appium, Espresso (Android), and XCTest (iOS)
- Collaborate with developers and product teams in Agile sprints using BDD and TDD methodologies
- Own the overall QA process and ensure quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle
- Identify, document, and track defects while ensuring timely resolution and validation
- Work directly with clients and stakeholders in a consultative, professional services environment
- Ensure Backbase-based applications meet strict performance, reliability, and security standards
- 5+ years of experience in software testing and QA automation for mobile applications (iOS and Android)
- At least 2+ years of hands-on experience working with the Backbase platform
- Strong experience in test automation frameworks such as Appium, Espresso, and XCTest
- Proficiency in Java and Swift for test development and automation scripting
- Experience executing non-functional testing including performance, security, load, and accessibility testing
- Background in financial services, preferably with credit unions or digital banking platforms
- Experience working in consulting or professional services environments with direct client interaction
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies including BDD and TDD
- Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in distributed, cross-functional teams
