This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Trade Compliance Specialist / Coordinator based in the United States.
This role sits at the intersection of international trade regulations, software technology, and cross-functional engineering operations, ensuring that complex software and technology products comply with U.S. export control laws. You will support the classification, documentation, and regulatory review of software, including encryption and technical data subject to EAR and potentially ITAR regulations. Working closely with legal, engineering, and business teams, you will help ensure compliant global releases of advanced technology solutions. The role involves analyzing technical product details, supporting licensing decisions, and maintaining accurate compliance records. You will also contribute to audits, risk identification, and internal training initiatives that strengthen trade compliance operations. This is a highly collaborative and detail-oriented position operating in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. It is ideal for professionals interested in combining regulatory expertise with software and engineering ecosystems.
Accountabilities:
- Support export classification of software and technology by analyzing features and assigning appropriate ECCNs, HTS codes, and country of origin determinations.
- Assist in evaluating encryption functionality in software to determine export control requirements, including potential BIS notifications or licensing needs.
- Conduct end-use and end-user due diligence, identifying and documenting potential compliance risks or red flags.
- Partner with engineering and development teams to assess software source code and technical documentation for export restrictions.
- Support export license determination, preparation, and submission processes, including identifying eligibility for license exceptions.
- Maintain accurate compliance records and contribute to audit activities to ensure adherence to export control regulations.
- Coordinate cross-functional trade compliance workflows and support day-to-day operational execution of compliance processes.
Requirements:
- 1–4 years of experience in trade compliance, import/export operations, customs brokerage, logistics, or related regulatory functions.
- Familiarity with BIS license submissions, deemed export processes, and software classification practices.
- Understanding of U.S. export control regulations, including EAR, deemed exports, Technology Control Plans, and FOCI-related frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical information such as software functionality, source code, and engineering documentation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside legal, technical, and business stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Jira is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple compliance workflows simultaneously.
- Preferred: degree or certification in international trade, business, supply chain, information technology, or a related field.
