Application Engineering Specialist

This role places you at the intersection of engineering design, customer engagement, and energy-efficient system innovation within the HVAC and hydronic space. You will analyze complex mechanical projects and translate them into optimized technical solutions that improve system performance and sustainability. Working closely with sales teams, consulting engineers, and contractors, you will provide high-value technical expertise across commercial and institutional projects. The position combines office-based engineering analysis with field interaction, including site visits and customer-facing presentations. You will contribute directly to improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs through intelligent system design and product selection. It is a highly collaborative role within a global technical environment focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
Accountabilities
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering technical engineering support across multiple project stages, from design to implementation.
- Review HVAC drawings, mechanical specifications, and system layouts to develop optimized hydronic solutions
- Interpret control schematics, P&ID diagrams, and plumbing designs to ensure accurate system integration
- Recommend system improvements such as variable flow, decoupled systems, and primary-secondary configurations
- Support energy efficiency goals through pump optimization, delta-T management, and control strategy analysis
- Prepare technical documentation, proposals, and system configurations aligned with customer requirements
- Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and design reviews alongside sales and engineering teams
- Translate field requirements into actionable engineering solutions and technical recommendations
- Collaborate with internal teams on custom applications, product selection, and technical validation
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical systems design or manufacturing, focused on HVAC and hydronic systems
- Experience in a technical customer-facing role such as application engineering, field service, or technical sales support
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and hydronic system documentation
- Strong understanding of district energy systems, central plants, pumps, heat exchangers, and control loops
- Knowledge of HVAC energy strategies (e.g., ASHRAE-based approaches, delta-T optimization, reset strategies)
- Proficiency with engineering selection tools and Microsoft Office; CRM or quoting systems is an asset
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple technical projects independently
