This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager, Billing Systems based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership, systems architecture, and business-critical billing operations. You will lead a distributed engineering team responsible for building and scaling billing, incentives, and performance guarantee systems that directly enable new enterprise partnerships and client implementations. Beyond team management, this is a deeply technical leadership role where you will shape architectural direction, make strategic engineering decisions, and ensure system reliability in high-scale, regulated environments. You will translate business needs into scalable technical solutions while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Finance, Compliance, and Product. The environment is fast-moving and mission-driven, with a strong emphasis on innovation, ownership, and long-term platform evolution.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and mentor a distributed engineering team responsible for building and maintaining billing, incentives, and performance guarantee systems that support complex B2B healthcare operations.
  • Define technical strategy and architectural direction for billing platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with business growth objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, Compliance, and Product teams to translate business requirements into executable engineering roadmaps.
  • Drive end-to-end delivery of billing system enhancements, including subscription and usage-based billing logic, transaction processing, and partner integrations.
  • Maintain system reliability and performance through hands-on technical involvement, including code reviews, debugging, and architectural guidance during critical incidents.
  • Embed security, compliance, and regulatory considerations into system design within a highly regulated healthcare environment.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-powered engineering tools to improve development velocity, code quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Requirements:

This role requires a strong blend of engineering leadership, systems design expertise, and hands-on technical depth, particularly within billing or financial systems. The ideal candidate brings over 8 years of software engineering experience and at least 5 years in engineering management, with a proven ability to influence technical direction and deliver business-critical systems at scale. You should be comfortable operating in complex, cross-functional environments and capable of balancing strategic planning with tactical execution.

    • 8+ years of software engineering experience, ideally with exposure to billing, payments, or financial systems.
    • 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership or management roles.
    • Strong technical expertise in backend systems, with experience in technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Postgres, Redis, and distributed architectures.
    • Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy, roadmap planning, and long-term system evolution.
    • Experience working in regulated environments with strong attention to security and compliance requirements.
    • Proven ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including Finance, Accounting, and Compliance teams.
    • Strong communication, leadership, and talent development skills with a track record of building high-performing engineering teams.
    • Experience or strong interest in AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering workflows.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary with annual performance bonus
      • Equity grants offering long-term ownership in the company
      • Fully remote-first work culture across the United States
      • Flexible Time Off to support work-life balance
      • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance with strong employer contributions
      • Generous parental leave policies
      • 401(k) retirement savings plan
      • Lifestyle spending account (LSA)
      • Mental health and wellness support programs
      • Access to modern engineering tools and AI-powered development platforms
      • Additional perks and employee wellbeing benefits
