GTB Financial Institutions ("FIs") provides Canadian payment clearing and settlement services to banks globally who fall within our strategy and risk appetite. As an integral team member in FI coverage, you will have responsibility for managing product profitability, provide exceptional client servicing, act as first line of defense for risk and internal compliance, as well as support a broader TDS wide client relationship management mandate. Effective and impactful FI coverage means delivering one-TD to our FI clients and prospects to developing 'partner' banks. Internally within TDS, one-TD means working in close collaboration with partners in Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange and TD's Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) to achieve strategic outcomes.

Job Scope

The Director, Treasury Solutions – Financial Institutions, GTB, is part of the broader FI team, will be based in Toronto or New York, and reports to the Head of Financial Institutions in GTB. As Director, you have responsibility for the strategic outlook, growing, and maintaining a portfolio of top North American head-quartered FI names. The role is responsible for originating new business primarily within GTB, and across Global Markets ("GM") & Debt Capital Markets ("DCM"). Managing senior stakeholder relationships to ensure deepening of client relationships, and optimizing client value and wallet, is instrumental to the role. The GTB FI team has a geographical coverage model broadly across North America, EMEA, UK, and APAC.

Key accountabilities for the Director candidate include (but not limited to):

  • As part of the Americas FI team, work closely with Global Head of Financial Institutions (GTB) and the broader Financial Institutions team to deliver an overall FI portfolio strategy to optimize client revenue and wallet share within bank's risk framework.
  • Meet and exceed revenue targets set out for the region.
  • In-depth understanding of the following Global Transaction Banking business is a plus, in particular:
  • Canadian Treasury and Commercial Payments, Continuous Linked Settlement, Deposit accounts
  • Trade Finance products (Import/Export Letter of credit, Trade Loans, Standby LCs, re-issuances)
  • Good understanding of liquidity management for FI operating cash accounts
  • Good understanding of Global Markets & Debt Capital Markets products and how they complement GTB FI business strategy.
  • Sound market knowledge and awareness of wider economic, political and market environment (domestic and international) for TD and the wider financial services industry.
  • Manage key operational and other inherent risks associated with the portfolio.
  • Ability to identify, assess and supervise control and mitigate risks.
  • Deepen existing client relationships to ensure more touch points‎ at all appropriate levels.
  • Prepare business analytic materials for existing clients/new business opportunities, working with Toronto team (including business performance).
  • Prepare new presentation materials, relationship matrix templates, pricing review exercise for core Tier 1 Financial Institution clients in the region.
  • Market research for key markets in the region, including competitor analysis.
  • Track and manage key referral deals to other business product ‎partners.
  • Perform KYC due diligence calling and support both TD and Client KYC/AML requests.
  • Manage your portfolio to include a broader strategic view for the benefit of the wider Corporate and Investment Banking ("CIB") and TD franchise, who will strive to achieve efficient outcomes for TD and our clients.
  • Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time.

Attributes

The Director candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • Strong business acumen, strategic overview and client relationship management skills. 
  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in capital markets, strategy, and/or relationship management.
  • Proven expertise in relationship management, enterprise strategy execution, and complex stakeholder coordination in matrixed environments; strong influence leadership.
  • Exceptional judgment, pattern recognition, and problem-solving skills under ambiguity, including reconciling differing departmental strategies and timelines.
  • Superior executive communication skills, with the ability to craft and deliver clear, enterprise-first narratives to senior internal and external audiences across cultures and geographies.
  • Possess a team-oriented attitude.
  • Prior experiences in a Financial Institution with relevant product knowledge will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and commitment.
  • Able to handle pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
