As part of our Hydrology & Hydrogeology discipline, you will contribute to a broad range of groundwater and surface water projects, leading field investigations and environmental monitoring programs using a range of in-house technical equipment. Additionally, you will support baseline studies, compliance reporting and specialist hydrogeological assessments, delivering on environmental management impacts for our clients. Working alongside experienced hydrogeologists and environmental scientists, you will gain exposure to varied projects while developing your technical and consulting capabilities.
We’re seeking a Hydrogeologist or Earth Scientist with at least two years of experience, ideally gained within a mining or resources environment, who is looking to build a long-term consulting career. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys fieldwork, data analysis, and understanding how water systems influence environmental and operational outcomes.
The role offers opportunities for remote travel, with additional remuneration available through overtime payments and/or time in lieu arrangements for work away from home.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
Environmental Monitoring: Undertake integrated monitoring programs involving groundwater, surface water, soil, and air quality sampling in accordance with SLR procedures and industry best practice.
Field Investigations: Conduct hydrogeological investigations, drilling programs, monitoring bore installations, and hydraulic testing activities.
Data Analysis: Assess monitoring data to identify trends, support interpretation, and improve understanding of groundwater and surface water systems.
Technology & Systems: Maintain and utilise automated telemetry and environmental data capture systems.
Technical Reporting: Prepare accurate, high-quality factual reports based on field observations and laboratory results.
Health & Safety Leadership: Champion safe work practices and actively contribute to SLR’s strong safety culture on client sites.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build effective working relationships with clients, site personnel, laboratories, suppliers, and project teams to support successful project delivery.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Qualifications: A degree in Science, Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline, or completion of relevant hydrogeology training. Remuneration will reflect qualifications and experience.
Technical Experience: At least two years of experience in groundwater monitoring, sampling, data analysis, and water management projects. Experience with drilling programs, geological or geotechnical logging, and report writing will be highly regarded.
Industry Knowledge: Understanding of groundwater management principles and associated legislation, standards, and guidelines. Knowledge of Queensland regulatory requirements is desirable, but not essential.
Data Interpretation: Theoretical and practical experience interpreting groundwater data and identifying key hydrogeological trends and processes.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and work effectively with stakeholders.
Field Capability: Willingness to travel domestically, including remote locations for project work, often for periods of up to one week at a time. A manual driver’s license and 4WD experience are highly desirable.
Site Experience & Eligibility: Mining industry experience and relevant site-based training, such as Standard 11 or S1, S2, S3, and G2 competencies, will be advantageous. Australian working rights are essential.
