This leadership role sits at the intersection of technical pre-sales excellence and team management, supporting public sector customers across education and state government markets. You will guide a team of presales systems engineers responsible for designing and positioning complex networking solutions that address real-world mission needs. The role combines strategic account support, technical solutioning, and people leadership within a fast-paced, customer-facing environment. You will partner closely with sales leadership to shape go-to-market strategies, influence pipeline development, and ensure technical resources are effectively aligned to opportunities. Beyond delivery, you will play a key role in coaching and developing talent, strengthening technical depth, and elevating consultative selling capability across the team. This is a highly visible position with direct impact on revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and long-term regional success.
Accountabilities
- Lead and manage a team of pre-sales systems engineers supporting higher education and state government customers, ensuring strong coverage across key accounts and opportunities.
- Partner with sales leadership to align technical resources with pipeline priorities, support account planning, and drive opportunity progression through the full sales cycle.
- Oversee presales strategy execution, ensuring effective solution design, technical validation, and customer engagement across networking and infrastructure opportunities.
- Coach and develop team members through performance management, skills development, and mentoring to strengthen consultative selling and technical expertise.
- Support business performance through forecasting, resource allocation, and operational oversight of presales activities and regional coverage.
- Engage in strategic customer discussions, helping shape solution direction and ensuring alignment between customer needs and technical offerings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners to improve win rates and ensure successful delivery of complex solutions.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in sales engineering, presales, or related technical customer-facing roles, with prior leadership or management responsibility.
- Strong background in networking, infrastructure, or enterprise IT solutions, with the ability to guide technical solution design at scale.
- Experience supporting public sector environments, ideally including higher education and/or state and local government customers.
- Proven ability to lead consultative selling efforts, support complex deal cycles, and contribute to revenue growth and quota achievement.
- Strong business acumen, including understanding of forecasting, pipeline management, and resource planning.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills with the ability to motivate and grow technical talent.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage both technical stakeholders and executive-level audiences.
