Abbott’s Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD) is looking to recruit a

General Manager Turkey (m/f/d)

Based in Istanbul

The primary goal of the role is to deliver sustainable growth and profitability of EPD’s business in the long term and short term for Turkey.  The position will be responsible for development and implementation of Country strategic plans and initiatives including developing and translating Division’s strategic goals to actionable plans for the Affiliate. Talent attraction/retention, engagement and organizational health, compliance of business with internal & external regulations.

Primary Job Function:

  • Translate division strategies into affiliate strategies and operational plans.

  • Deliver sustainable, profitable results through plan execution, that support short- and long-term growth.

  • Inspire team and develop talent.

  • Shape and influence external environment for the category to build and sustain reputation.

  • Representing Abbott in the Affiliate both internally and externally, upholds Abbott’s reputation and build the brand image.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Translate and adapt the division strategy into an operations plan/business model for the country/region.

  • Articulate the plan in a way that motivates and inspires the team to own and execute it, while continuously role-modelling and reinforcing Abbott’s culture.

  • Routinely assess external environment to stay current on business and industry concerns. Assess and prioritize potential business opportunities, anticipate future needs and develop strategies for advancing the category against competitors.

  • Navigate complex and changing compliance and regulatory environments; understand the business context, i.e. payer systems, customers, local market and competition to build sustainable environment for Abbott EPD.

  • Successfully interact with and influence a variety of external stakeholders (governments, regulatory agencies, associations, etc.); builds and sustains Abbott’s reputation.

  • Create meaningful, actionable individual and team goals to achieve EPD’s long- and short-term plans.

  • Acquire, allocate and sustain the necessary assets (people, materials, equipment) to achieve the short- and long-term plan and strategy.  Delegates appropriately but assures that timelines are being met and financial results are delivered and optimized.

  • Execute according to plan and achieve set targets: set KPIs, priorities/measurement /performance systems, manage resources, and adjust.

  • Build lasting collaborative relationships with and influence internal stakeholders including other Abbott GMs / METAP&CIS Regional Office and Global Headquarter especially on strategic partnerships.

  • Hire, develop, inspire, encourage, and retain talent, build diversity and succession pipeline.  Mentors and lead staff development.

  • To comply with the company’s policies and procedures to meet statutory, quality and business requirements within the overall strategy and objectives of Abbott Laboratories Ltd.

  • Owns local market access strategy.

Minimum Education:

REQUIRED:

  • Advanced degree, preferably business / management or science

PREFERRED:

  • Degree in business, management, or science

  • Post-graduate training in management or leadership

  • Training in finance and quantitative skills (statistics)

Minimum Experience/Training/Background:

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Manage commercial operations (sales, product marketing, payer models) in a middle/large size business unit in Pharma industry and/or Consumer Healthcare.

  • Manage P&L and budgets as well as finance, operations, policy, and compliance. Experience in optimizing P&L (margins improvement).

  • Develop and coach employees; highly effective people management skills including inspiring / engaging others to build a high performing organization. Developing and coaching “leaders”: experience in managing managers.

  • Manage/lead across functions, geographies, cultures and/or divisions. Work in a complex matrix management environment.

  • English and Local language fluency and local cultural expertise.

  • Driving change and building sustainable capabilities.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Local market knowledge/experience in Pharma industry or Healthcare industry would be advantageous.

  • Experience in dealing with Authorities.

  • Work experience in multiple countries/divisions. Country as well as headquarters/functional roles.

  • Experience in Branded GX, Biosimilar and/or experience in product category.

  • Sales experience / Sales management experience in pharma / consumer healthcare.

TECHNICAL SKILLS/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Relevant training in management, marketing, sales, market access and finance.

  • Ability to develop and execute on business strategy in collaboration with management team. Ability to communicate business strategy empowering relevant functions to contribute and own significant parts of the local go to market approach.

  • Anticipate, adapt, and respond to market dynamics and change. Ability to function under uncertainty.

TECHNICAL SKILLS/TRAINING PREFERRED:

  • Relevant direct-to-consumer marketing skills and training in customer-relationship management.

  • Training in innovation management and relevant skills in stakeholder engagement and influencing.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS:

  • Lead talent management (hire, develop, inspire, encourage, and retain) including long-term human capital planning and organization design; win the war for talent.

  • Understand the importance of an external focus and customer intimacy, balance customer interaction with ongoing internal demands.

  • Understand how things get done in Abbott; communicate and influence up and across Abbott.

  • Create a sustainable culture of innovation, calculated risk-taking and high accountability.

  • Maintain and foster culture of compliance in an ever-changing and complex regulatory environment.
