This role offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented tax professional to take ownership of multi-state sales and use tax compliance within a fast-growing, service-driven organization. You will play a key part in ensuring accurate and timely tax filings across federal, state, local, and select international jurisdictions. Working closely with internal teams and external advisors, you will help interpret tax regulations, evaluate transaction taxability, and support nexus determinations across a complex operational footprint. The position provides exposure to a wide range of tax areas, including income tax and regulatory filings, within a collaborative and remote-friendly environment. You will also contribute to process improvements, helping strengthen tax controls, documentation, and compliance readiness. Accountabilities
- Prepare and support multi-state sales and use tax compliance activities, including data gathering, return preparation, reconciliations, and filing support.
- Research and analyze taxability of transactions by reviewing contracts, invoices, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with use tax accruals and identify potential exposure risks across jurisdictions.
- Support exemption certificate management and ensure proper documentation and compliance controls.
- Assist with federal, state, and international income tax compliance activities, including data collection and payment initiation.
- Support non-income tax filings and related compliance obligations as required.
- Assist in responding to tax notices, audits, and information requests from regulatory authorities.
- Support nexus studies, state registrations, and ongoing compliance requirements across jurisdictions.
- Conduct tax research and monitor legislative changes impacting state and local tax (SALT) obligations.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready tax workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and enhancements to tax reporting workflows.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to ensure timely and accurate tax compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 3–5 years of relevant tax experience, with a strong focus on sales and use tax compliance.
- Foundational understanding of state and local tax (SALT) principles.
- Experience working in service-based, consulting, or multi-state operating environments is preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to analyze large datasets.
- Experience using tax compliance platforms such as Avalara or Vertex is required; advanced proficiency is preferred.
- Familiarity with Vantagepoint or similar systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Ability to conduct tax research using online tools and specialized tax research platforms.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with internal teams and external advisors.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining accountability and accuracy.
- CPA designation is highly preferred or actively pursued.
- Prior public accounting experience is considered an advantage.
